The Fred Thompson Show, hosted by the former U.S. Senator will replace The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly on radio stations nationwide -
NEW YORK, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Westwood One is pleased to announce the debut of The Fred Thompson Show on March 2, 2009. The show will replace The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly when the program ends its successful six-year run on February 27, 2009. Former U.S. senator and 2008 presidential candidate, Fred Thompson will share his views on politics, topical issues, pop culture and water cooler stories, as well as welcome guest interviews and take listener calls. The Fred Thompson Show will be a two-hour daily talk show and will air live Noon-2pm, Monday - Friday from the Westwood One studios in Washington DC.
"There is no prerequisite for a great talk show host, but if I were going to make one up, senator, presidential candidate, federal prosecutor, radio commentator, film and TV star would be a pretty good start," said Bart Tessler, EVP Westwood One News & Talk Programming.
"When folks listen to a radio show, they make an appointment with it. It is the ideal way for me to continue my dialog with America about the issues we all face each day," said Thompson.
"Senator Thompson is a perfect fit for radio," said Gary Schonfeld, President of Westwood One Networks. "His unique set of qualifications will make him a huge hit with both listeners and advertisers."
C’mon, Shiva, we all know it.
Rush, Coulter, Hannity, Hedgecock, and the rest all stand to make indecent revenues with show ratings, book sales, and personal appearences. And conservatives will open their wallets in a feeble attempt to “let their voices be heard”, while the Leftists supermajority laughs at them.
Fred just wants to make a few $$$ before The One (piss be upon him) confiscates the wealth.
Too little ... too late Fred.
I think this is probably a good move for Fred; but he needs to be on at a different time.
Time will tell. I will listen to Fred initially rather than Rush.
Gosh, Sarge, you just gave me nothing to believe in.
The competition will be good for Rush. Anytime Rush starts droning on about golf or cigars there will be an instant flood to Fred. Thank goodness! Let’s face it, sometimes Rush is boring. Reeeealy boring! Turn off the radio unbearably boring!
Rush isn’t the only great conservative mind out there. Fred will be great as soon as he gets his sea legs on the airwaves. Fred will also probably have a lot of interesting guests while Rush seldom does.
I predict Rush will welcome Fred as healthy competition! Rush will rise to the occasion and so will Fred!
Let’s face it, Rush may be brilliant, but he is not a grown-up. Fred is.
I want to hear what Fred has to say for a change.
FRed and Rush on at the same time.. podcast available?
That’s why God gave ya two ears, shove an earphone with Rush on in one ear and one with FRed on in the other.
O-Reilly packs it in? O’Really? Merry Christmas indeed.
Oh, YAY!!
I have banned all news and politics from my house for the forseeable future. Around here we refer to “President Fred Thompson”. :)
You should have seen the fight yesterday when my daughter found her brother wearing HER Fred shirt. And to add to the indignity it smelled like his cologne. Bwahahaha!!
I don't get O'Reilly here, so I hope they replace Hanitty or Savage with Fred.
Having never heard Bill O’Really on any radio on purpose I welcome Fred to the airwaves. Now who will replace Hannity? I will dream big and hold out hope for Thomas Sowell.
Great news!
The same insurmountable problem that BOR had. Nobody can compete with Rush Limbaugh.
Fred ping
Yay! They replay BOR here in the evenings so, hopefully, they will do the same with FT.
I don’t own a podcast—(and don’t want one). What I’ll do is listen to Rush on 24/7 and Fred live.

It’s nice to have options either way.
I don’t use podcast either.
I’ll enjoy ‘em when I can catch ‘em.
I don’t have Sat radio either.
