Fabulous song in many languages. I love this Swedish version sung by the angelic voiced Norwegian soprano Sissel.

Aren’t you really going to let me compare it? Please.

Wow. Angelic is certainly the right adjective for her. Thanks for sharing it.

Josh Groban’s voice still lacks maturity to me. It is improving, he is an undoubted talent and seemingly a nice guy too, but he doesn’t have the fullness and tonal quality of, say, Andrea Bocelli.

In ten years he will be great.

I agree completely with your thoughts on David Phelps. I have always felt that when he sings, it’s about HIM, not about honoring and glorifying God.

Doug, thanks for the beautiful song.

Can you imagine just how awesome it must have been to have been present at the Lord’s birth—to know that the Messiah had come to fulfill all the prophecies.

I am not a fan, fan of Grobin, but he is a good singer.

You don’t have to be “girly” to enjoy his singing!

I think, without a doubt, it is my favorite Christmas song. I love Joan Jett’s version of ‘Little Drummer Boy’,too, but I haven’t been able to find it on youtube.

Yes, Christina Ag. for one. She has a great voice but ruins the classic songs with all her extra vocals

Great performance, great song.

but, since angels don’t sing...

I’m going with O’ Little Town of Bethlehem for the
beauty and simplicity of its melody and the depth
of its lyrics.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow. Angelic is certainly the right adjective for her.

She was a voice with angelic purity and heavenly range. I stumbled on Sissel via that video a while back. YouTube has several other Christmas songs of similar quality in various languages by her. My other favorites are Glade Jul (Silent Night in Norwegian) and Mary's Boy Child (in English). She voiced over Ariel in the The Little Mermaid for the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish versions. She should be better known in the states as the Love Theme for Titannic was actually written for her to sing. The record label balked over her low US profile and gave it to Celine Dion instead... who did a fair job for an understudy. Sissel was reduced to providing all the angelic humming throughout the score of the film.

I really like Josh Groban’s version of “Oh Holy Night” also. I listened to the others suggested on this site, but I don’t think they hold a candle to Josh’s version.

Another really great song is “Mary Did You Know?” written and sung by Mark Lowery. It is also on youtube. Others sing this song, but I think Mark sings it best in a live performance with (David Phelps and Guy Penrod singing backup).

Thanks for posting.

Just for comparison, here is an abomination of the song by Jessica Simpson. What were they thinking when they released this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiKBz1rlwGI&feature=related

Doug, I agree.

Heard this very song on the radio in early November while driving, Had to pull off the road—it was that powerful.

I have always thought that this particular hymn is one of pure worship.

We sang it in church this morning—and I could not finish it.
