One idiot teen even called in a bomb threat on his cell phone ...

Bomb threat caller at our local high school last year turned out to be the son of a principal in another county school. The kid told all his friends.

I would guess that after the bank bomb which is also breaking news right now that a 2nd person has been arrested in relation too.

So I would guess they are looking for more than one device which may be in a students car.

We lost 2 LE in the Woodburn Bank bombing so I suppose caution is on max levels right now.

The first suspect in the bank bomb/murder was found due to the cell phone ownership attached to the device.

His kin are shocked (per usual) as he was a good Christian Man who was out collecting oil for a bio diesel company he is part of.

Kapp emphasized that authorities do not want parents to come to the school to pick up their children

My sister's kids go to a school where they have similar "rules" if there is an emergency at the school. Parents are going to come to the school, they would be better to devise a plan to deal w/parents at a nearby, but separate location.

In the age of cell phones, many kids would be able to communicate w/their parent to pick them up.

I can't imagine the nightmare of bussing every child home when many students don't normally ride the bus.

The Woodburn bank bomb has me curious on the motive.

Family claims the fellow in custody is a good Christian and not involved.

He has some serious old tats so perhaps a old past.
He has a huge tat that has me wondering if he was formally a member of a not so nice group.
Total speculation on my part.

How is he going to explain his cell phone being strapped to the bomb.

The Bomb specialists on that one thought the bomb was fake and took it from the outside of the bank to the inside where it detonated.

Some specialists!

There had been a threat earlier in the day that turned out to be fake. I suspect they were more casual because of that incident, and that may have been what was intended by the bomber.

The one fellow from OSP apparently did have a fairly strong background as a bomb technician.

Their decision to treat it as non-threatening was rather like looking down the barrel of a gun assuming, but not verifying, that it’s unloaded.

What a shame.

Possibly there has been a threat of a bomb IN A CAR, so they do not want cars leaving or coming to the school(s). They will check all of the cars left at school with bomb dogs or whatever after the area is cleared. Just speculating....

"What a shame.

Yes it is a terrible shame. Even if they thought it was a dud, I would think taking it inside the bank is not the smartest thing to do.

I am in my 60s and find it so sad we even have incidents like this. And even more sad is that they seem to be increasing in frequency.

ok so i go to evergreen high school & the whole day started with a PLANNED DRILL with the vancouver police department
it was a planned lockdown that lasted about 10 mins during 2nd period then the drill was over and we got back to our routine class period in a passive lockdown drill, we were then released to our 3rd period class in which i am in child development in which we teach a pre-school class
we were about done with the class period when the announcement that we were evacuating to mckenzie stadium (the districts staduim which is on the campus of evergreen)
remember this is only after one device was found in a bathroom in the a&c academy (a&c stands for arts & communications) we then went down to mckenzie stadium with the preschoolers & kindergarteners enrolled in our teaching programs at evergreen the whole school was in the stands this is when they found the second device somewhere in evergreen which was not disclosed
we were then waiting for instruction on what to do in the mean while we are all freezing cold , we waited down in the stands for about 25 mins then we were instructed to head over to cascade middle school ( the middle school on campus with evergreen) and lockdown over there ,then we were notified that they found ANOTHER DEVICE in mckenzie stadium WHERE WE WERE EVACUATED TO IN THE FIRST PLACE! if these devices were to be explosive you can just imagine how today could have ended my class which was with the pre-schoolers & kindergarteners was located seperately in the faculty lounge the rest of the high school students were in the gym’s of cascade and all the cascade students were located in the cafeteria after a good hour & a half the younger kids were released on a bus to a undisclosed location where the parents could pick them up
then i was re located to the gym with the rest of the students . we were then released in groups of 40 at about 1:25 my group was released .
3/4 of 138th was shut down for us to load onto the busses
we then proceeded to our regular busses then bussed home ...

Thanks for posting your first hand report.

Welcome to FreeRepublic.

So everyone gets a snow day off and the Eastside students are sent to school for an all day drill.

That is what it sounds like.

Kudos on your interest in Child Dev.

Seems too coincidental that yall had a planned drill then wallah a note was found leading to finding 3 bunk devices and you guys wasted a whole day being shipped around like cattle.

Heck they could have at least set up the Red Cross and give you guys hot chocolate and donuts esp the lil kids.

Wonder if some grant money on homeland security needed to be spent before the coupon expired.

What a waste of money and time if this was all a pseudo drill.

Sounds like they should have bussed all yall to a public place to be bussed home or picked up in the first place unless they were using the drill to keep you guys captive as if they were searching for a possible student perp.

Why else just allow 30 students go at a time?

Sounds like you guys were put through the wringer and then the sifter.

I noticed the news left out the details like shipping you to the open stadium in freezing weather then finding another device at the place where they evacuated you to.

Like I said it seems to coincidently, and I suspect you were used as an all day drill volunteer without choice.

I hope more of you guys speak up about this and I imagine some Parents are ticked esp with the lil ones being put out in the cold.

Maybe next time everyone gets a snow day except the Eastside yall should take a family day.

Lars Larson should hear about this.

Dave Anderson of AMNorthwest was complaining about his kids not getting the day off it will be interesting to see his take on this tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. Whatever exactly turns out to have happened, at least nobody was hurt beyond picking up a cold in the head.

Reason #4,826 to homeschool - no bomb threats. We did have a fire drill a couple of months ago when Tom set the carpet on fire, and then an additional emergency when I got the carpet taken care of and discovered the snake was loose!

Agreed. I can’t speak to their motivation, but it was a wet/cold nite and I’m guessing they might have wanted to preserve any evidence from it. As I said, like looking in a gun barrel thinking there’s no bullets.

When I do something that’s not well thought out, fortunately, it doesn’t have this kind of consequences.
