I have a question..

Exactly what qualifies a business to get bailed out of mostly self-created meltdown?

Is it based on a certain number of employees?

Is it based on location?

Is it based on how much debt the company has?

We keep hearing with each bailout that such-and-such is just too big to allow to fold... So— a boat factory in rural Arkansas that gets wiped out by a Tornado can't get “bailed out” of their problems because they “only” employ 300 people?

What about all the other US businesses that have folded this year, or have announced bankruptcy or going out of business?

Where do we draw the line?

What about “equal protection” under the law???

And again, which article or amendment to the US Constitution gives the Federal Government authority to bail ANY business out?

How can the government possibly be in a position to say “no” to any business- big or small? They have set a precedent.

According to your table, the bailout passed, 52-35. So why is Jenny so pissed off at the Republican senators? I must be missing something here

No, that was the vote to end debate (filibuster). Takes 60 votes to break the filibuster. An Aye vote means a vote to end debate (which usually also represents those votes in favor of the measure, but not always.

Bush and those Congresscritters who voted to give the UAW a carte blanche at the expense of our taxes are disgraces.

Corker was right. The UAW should accept parity with the workers at other auto plants in the U.S.

“They have chosen to ignore the livelihood of three million Americans, three million families, and in the process have chosen to drive the American manufacturing industry — and perhaps the American economy — into the ground.

Of course the State and Federal governments taxing and regulating the manufacturing industry into the ground is ignored, as is the trial lawyers association. Not forcing taxpayers to subsidize UAW wages and benefits that far exceed what the majority of taxpayers themselves earn is just plain mean spirited.

The Majority leader always votes no when he's going to lose so he can bring it back up for a vote later.

No wonder our government is so screwed up. Who thinks up these rules?

I find this almost funny, about “domestic manufacturing” base being so important. I do agree - it's just... hey Gov.... see that? It's a forrest!

My 2008 Chevy Equinox has a V-6 Engine that was built in Huang China, the AF33 transmission is made in Japan, and the car is assembled in Ontario, Canada.

Lots of Dems voted NO too and other such as Ted Kennedy and John Kerry and our next VP didn’t even bother to vote. Where’s the outrage there?

Those other companies non-union? Hmmmmm........accept parity with non-union.....then, why would they need union representation, and the dues and tribute required to remain so.

Good idea!

Interestig how Granholm makes it sound like the Democrats in Michigan had nothing to do with it. Somehow, after all these years of Democrat control, it's the Republicans's fault for one vote the other day.

Shall we talk about how the Democrats disenfranchised Michigan during the primaries? Shall we talk about how the Democrat primary candidates like Obama and Clinton didn't have to face the Michigan voters about their economy? Shall we talk about how McCain and Romney faced Michigan voters, telling them that jobs weren't coming back?

How do we remind Michigan voters that the Democrats passed on facing up to the problems in Michigan during the election, and are now trying to blame it all on Republicans?

“Seems I recall a story a few years back where the State of MI mandated that the counties change from a system where they handled their own child support payments to a system where all funds were payed to the state, then the state sent them back to/through the counties. Shortly thereafter the State of Michigan OUTSOURCED the program.”

You can ‘blame’ the Family Support Act of 1988 for that as it mandated each state develop a single statewide system (not 83 separate independent systems).

The development of the system was outsourced but not offshore; the work is done in Lansing, the vast majority of the workers are U.S. citizens and many are from Michigan-owned companies.

I can blame Granholm for lots of things but this wasn’t anything she decided.

The Republicans are the MINORITY party. How could they be responsible? Can't the Democrats garner the 51 votes it would take to pass the UAW bailout bill?

The GOP is foolish to not respond to this criticism. Its NOT their fault!!!

Interesting that the Party that destroyed the Banking, Real Estate and Auto Industry is upset about a Bailout. The Dems have run the Detroit paradise for decades and look where it got the people.
