Who will fill Obama's senate seat? (So Obama says never met with Blagojevich)

CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That's one of Obama's first priorities today.

He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

KHQA's Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there's a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

I would add Jesse Jackson, Jr. and any intermediary he may have used..... JJ jr. seems to be implicated:

Yeah, people keep making too many assumptions about Obambi — with his consigliere Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel it is more likely that the Obamanation avoided being implicated in this — and someone on his team may well have been the one to drop the dime on Blago, leak to the Chicago Tribune, etc.

One last thing ...

Blago may have been on to Durbin.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g_rAS09kDgReHxvRfWv5ZpKbPCDQD94VFF2G0

Durbin said his relationship with the governor has been cordial but not close. Blagojevich waited 12 days to return Durbin’s recent phone call requesting a discussion of the Obama vacancy, Durbin said. The two men discussed about 20 possible replacements, Durbin said, and Blagojevich made no hint that he was seeking payments or other favors in making his choice.

It also sends the message to play nice with The One, or look what happens.

Don’t make it the last thing...please..I love your posts!

Sounds to me like Durbin is just covering for himself here. Why..if Durbin had not been close to Blago, as he now claims, would he have made a good choice for cooperation with the feds in a sting?

One thing is certain....this story is not over. I’ll catch up later today. Let me know if you find some other good stuff.

Ya know, I’m still puzzled over the Sneed Sun-Times messages. Someone (from Team 0?) fired back at Blago:

10/28/08 “Goodbye gov? Sneed hears a plan is afoot to impeach Gov. Blagojevich following the presidential election next month. Word is the votes are there. Stay tuned.”

Today 0 and Durbin are calling for Blago’s resignation. Coincidence? I think NOT!

I’m puzzled over everything.CNN now saying the presser in the next hour. Isn’t it interesting that the reporters have apparently been camped out at JJJ’s house....but Obama and his team get no press questions or folks camping out at their houses at all!!

Nope...no hard questions for Zero, Rahm Emmanuel, David Axelrod or any other Team O member. CNN thinking it now possible that JJJ was involved in the investigation!!

Hmmmmm........

What if he did report it? Not that I'm defending the guy, but someone with Obama's ego would not take kindly to a shake down. He's the President-elect (and has his logo to prove it) for pete's sake and he's gonna let some punk governor tell him what to do!!!

The proof that he didn't report it is the fact he isn't taking credit for taking this criminal down. The ego you mention would not let him stand aside and NOT take credit for busting Blago. I bet Bozo is sweating bullets right now wondering what Blago will blab.

FoxNews saying that JJJ is “candidate #5,” ...that takes him out of any senatorial consideration, I would think. Gov Blago can “redeem” himself (a tiny bit) by naming as PE Obama’s replacement in the senate, the man he defeated for that Illinois senate seat, former ambassador ALAN KEYES..! Talk about throwing a stink-bomb at the wedding..! Dr. Keyes is a black man, replacing a half-black man, and above reproach in his morals and ethics. Way to get back at the Chicago political machine, and give Harry Reid something to ponder...

That could be true I guess. I hope someone is keeping a close eye on the governor so there won't be a messy suicide or a trip down an elevator shaft.
