CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
That's one of Obama's first priorities today.
He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.
Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.
There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.
It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.
Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.
KHQA's Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there's a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.
Before you ever heard her say it.
Things don't always happen for the first time when you are aware of them.
: >)
One likely scenario I mentioned yesterday was that certain people at the Tribune were actually questioned by the FBI...so no ‘leak’ to the media was needed. They knew because they were a subject of the investigation due to the wiretaps on Blago’s shakedown conspiracy of the Trib. and Wrigley Field.
I know-Sarah probably used the phrase since childhood. ;)
I just loved how the media portrayed Obama as Rico Suave when he used the same colloquialisms that Sarah, the moose-shooter did.
HuffPost has a whole timeline page regarding
Blago’s ‘search’ for the replacement up to
the present.
How curious that their log begins on **11/6/08**
-— one day AFTER Obama went to Springfield to
meet with him — YET it’s dated 11/5/08 .. THE
day.
Clever, huh?
Oops. Misprint. It should have said. "He's meeting with Governor Palin this afternoon in Anchorage to discuss moose hunting." We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
Hahahahaaaaaaa...much better Photoshopping skills. Bravo
“Who will fill Obama’s senate seat?”
Better question: Who will fill Obama’s President-elect seat? This story has legs as well as roots. Roddy’s only the first of many powerful and corrupt Illinois politicians who will be joined together in Club Fed from this. Chicago is about to go under a media microscope and the hacks are going to scatter like roaches when the light comes on. I can’t wait to see this unfold.
You betcha!
LOL
I know some people dismiss Andy Martin, but the article on his site today is pretty interesting.

” Meetings are scheduled and canceled all the time, so we really need to know if this one did take place.”
One would hope that the Fitz has established Obama’s whereabouts on the day in question.
We know for sure that Obama was in a gym somewhere.
Yes, here is confirmation of the meeting that TOOK place from an article several days later.

QUINCY, IL — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
Obama met with Governor Rod Blagojevich earlier this week to discuss it. Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement. There’s already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Junior to Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth.
Duckworth made an appearance in Saturday’s Veterans’ parade in Quincy. We asked her about the possibility of filling Obama’s seat.
“The Governor’s office confirmed yesterday that he is considering me and I am deeply honored jus to be considered. I hope whoever is selected is someone who is willing to travel around the state and gets to know this wonderful state. I’m just honored to be considered,” Duckworth said.
The governor expects to make his decision before Christmas. Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

OK .. now I’m 2nd thoughts about the Nov. 5 alleged meeting between Obama and Blagojevich in Chicago to discuss this seat. Plus, the gist of what I’ve read is that Obama traveled “downstate” to meet with him about this.
**Is this meeting credibly confirmed?
~~~
This is the excerpt from the complaint (Pgs 59-61), regarding his taped conversations on that day, Nov. 5. Is it plausible that he was taped in his home or office AND also met with Obama in Chicago that day, too?
“93. On November 5, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke with Deputy Governor A regarding positions that ROD BLAGOJEVICH might be able to obtain in exchange for the soon-to-be vacated Senate seat.
Among the potential positions discussed were Secretary of Health and Human Services and various ambassadorships.
Deputy Governor A noted that 58 the cabinet position of Secretary of the Energy is the one that makes the most money.
Deputy Governor A stated that it is hard not to give the Secretary of Energy position to a Texan, but with ROD BLAGOJEVICHs coal background it might be a possibility.
94. On November 5, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke with JOHN HARRIS regarding what ROD BLAGOJEVICH could obtain for the Senate seat.
After discussing various federal governmental positions that ROD BLAGOJEVICH would trade the Senate seat for, ROD BLAGOJEVICH asked about the private sector and whether the President-elect could put something together there. . . .Something big.
Thereafter, HARRIS suggested that the President-elect could make ROD BLAGOJEVICH the head of a private foundation. ROD BLAGOJEVICH told HARRIS that he should do homework on private foundations right away.
ROD BLAGOJEVICH asked whether he could get a high-ranking
position at the Red Cross. HARRIS stated that its got to be a group that is dependent on [the President-elect], and that a President probably could not influence the Red Cross.
ROD BLAGOJEVICH told HARRIS to look into all of those.
95. On November 5, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with JOHN HARRIS and Deputy Governor A. They discussed potential private foundations with which ROD BLAGOJEVICH might be able to get a position in exchange for filling the Senate seat and, in particular, those foundations that are heavily dependent on federal aid and which, therefore, the White House would have the most influence on.
ROD BLAGOJEVICH wanted to know how much the positions being discussed pay. 59
96. On November 5, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with Advisor A about the Senate seat. During the phone call, ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated that the President-elect can remove somebody from a foundation and give the spot to ROD BLAGOJEVICH.
In regards to the Senate seat, ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated Ive got this thing and its f***ing golden, and, uh, uh, Im just not giving it up for f***in nothing. Im not gonna do it. And, and I can always use it.
I can parachute me there.
97. On November 6, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH talked with Spokesman.
ROD BLAGOJEVICH told Spokesman to leak to a particular columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, that Senate Candidate 2 is in the running for the vacant Senate seat.
According to ROD BLAGOJEVICH, by doing this, he wanted to send a message to the [President-elects] people, but did not want it known that the message was from ROD BLAGOJEVICH.
Thereafter, ROD BLAGOJEVICH and Spokesman discussed specific language that should be used in the Sun Times column and arguments as to why Senate Candidate 2 made sense for the vacant Senate seat.
A review of this particular Sun Times column on November 7, 2008, indicates references to the specific language and arguments regarding Senate Candidate 2 as a potential candidate for the Senate seat, as discussed by ROD BLAGOJEVICH and Spokesman.
Info anyone?
Wish I could take credit, but I got it from another SUPER Freeper and I don’t know their name.
I just know that it seems of all of my rambling on the internet, this place has some of the smartest folks.
Most of the time anyway, haha.
I love the picture of Obama at the top of the article that has the caption: “Senate seat up for grabs” How prophetic.
