No — I’m a devout, church-going, raised-in-the-pews Baptist. Very conservative (after a brief teenage stint in the wilderness akin to the Prodical Son.)
My point is not that I love Mitt Romney so much. He is far from perfect. (as Christ said, There is none without sin. No not one.)
My larger point is that McCain was just so obviously awful ... a feeble-ish geek, white bread boring, Washington insider, liberal ‘Democrat’ on ALL issues except the WOT and abortion ... yet these same Romney haters (not just on FR but in many conservative circles) fell silent and in fact offered praise and approval.
McCain has done MORE damage to the conservative movement than Romney ever did on his worst day.... Romney in 2008 had a far more enthusiastic PRO-CONSERVATIVE message ... that would have been understood and better embraced in the general election. McCain was so confused, he confused himself.
No, I’m not a Mormon. Far from it.
But I do agree with people like Dobson, Tancredo, Rick Santorum, Limbaugh, Ingraham, Beck, Hannity, Jones, Mack, Weyrich, National Review, Lowry, and hundreds more who saw the BIGGER picture (supported or endorsed Romney) -— and were not obsessed with petty hatreds over a few statements someone might have made or done 15 years ago.
With attitudes like you see here on FR (and elsewhere) with the obstinate hate-filled “anti crowd” (toward any Republican, not just Romney) -— the GOP will cease to be a viable party.
Before or after Mitt quit the race?
