Tribune Co. is preparing for a possible bankruptcy-protection filing as soon as this week, according to people familiar with the matter, opening a new front of trouble for the newspaper industry.
As Tribune continues discussions with its lenders to rework its debt load, the newspaper-and-television concern in recent days ...

Yeah, I wonder how close NYT and LAT are to bankruptcy?
Anyone...
The LA Times is part of the Tribune Co. The NY Times Co. has another year or so to live.
He's only on the hook for 300 mil. He's still an extremely wealthy man. Like many successful men, he takes risks. Some work out, some don't. It's not like he pushed all his chips into the middle of the table.
So you are the person responsible for all this? (LOL)!!
Thanks for the info. Do you personally think their ‘death’ will effect the political culture in America?
“I can remember when the Chicago Tribune was a conservative paper.”
And so was the Los Angeles Times, Phildelphia Inquirer, New York Daily News, Time Magazine and many others. sigh
Well, he has had a run of bad luck lately.
I think he bought American Hawaiian Cruise Lines some years ago. He was bringing out 4 new ships and then 9/11 occurred.
The company folded and the newer ships sold.

I find him really tedious. Brinker is always talking and fawning over the Fed chairman.
Anything that cuts the tongue out of the Drive-By Media (metaphorically speaking of course) is a good thing, imo. What remains to be seen is how information distribution re-orients itself and whether conservatives can use it properly. I am optimistic.
I feel the same way. The more the better - more media, more informed people. I also like magazines, and have been giving gift subscriptions to friends, as a practical gesture of support.
Our local is the Sun Sentinel which I and some others refer to as the Scum Slantinel.
What was Sam Zell thinking? He is a very smart cookie. My guess is he will get rid of a lot of deadwood, union printers and other costs. All these papers are so left wing, pro-illegal alien, pro-gay and pro-Obama it is sickening. Hopefully they will die to save million of trees. I will take trees over printed propaganda any day.

The company’s cash flow may not be enough to cover nearly $1 billion in interest payments due this year, and Tribune owes a $512 million debt payment in June.
One of Tribune’s most pressing concerns: By the end of the year, the company is likely to be in violation of debt terms that limit borrowings to nine times its adjusted profits. The ratio stood at 8.3 at the end of the second quarter, before Tribune reported an 83% decline in operating profit for the three months ended Sept 28.

And so it begins
Your tolerance is the reason Conservatives suck hind tit.
