Here is my rule of thumb. Figure the S&P actual forward earnings are something like $40 or $50 depending on how pessimistic you are. Apply a 15 multiple then apply that percentage drop to the DOW. Another thing to do is look at a real long term chart and figure we will revert pretty close to the mean growth rate.
