“So now we turn to Romney...”
Why...I’m no Romney fan. Are you? The only thing Romney has going for him is the fact that he is Mormon. That’s not enough to support him.
Interesting, despite all your bluster about Conservatism Spiff, you bring us Mitt, along with your fellow Mormons who have exhausted themselves (and many of us) with efforts to make him out as the Conservative savior.
You accuse many of us for the same crimes your yourself are guilty of Spiff. For choosing a candidate based on their faith is the other side of the coin of bigotry.
The one saving grace for "our side" Spiff is facts, for while there may be some who oppose Mitt on religious grounds, there is is also ample evidence to support the contention that Mitt is unfit for conservatives on POLITICAL grounds as well. That is where I began many months ago.
So then what would be a Conservatives rationale for supporting him? Other than being a religious peer of course? Now exactly whose argument comes under the heading of bigotry exclusively?
Here is where the issue is Spiff, it is the contradiction that kills.
To thine own self be true...
Last thought, I have to point out the other contradiction in your post, one I have seen from other Mitt fans, the one about attacks on Mitt/Mormons continuing, whilst ignoring the other side of the equation, that Mitt post are continuing as well. Of course you yourself said in your post the race is over. Well is it Spiff?
Don't start none, won't be none as they say in the street...
But to many of his supporters, there can no cause to oppose Mitt EXCEPT on his faith, which in turn is brought into play in a constant circular argument that always ends in the projection of religious victim hood and an ignoring of political fact.
Is the dog chasing the tail is or in the tail chasing the dog?
Well done G...
“Exactly, therefore we have an actual reason to oppose him on FR, beyond his faith.”
So why don’t you? Why the constant Mormon bashing? You have reasons to oppose Mitt, religion shouldn’t be the reason.
As usual ;)
I debate the Mormon Dogma (something I have retired from to a great extent, since my questions were answered some time ago) on religious threads, and Mitt based on his politics on those threads. Indeed I left Mitt's religion completely out of my posts from the time the race started 2 years ago until after he dropped. Indeed it was the posts I had seen here and there that made me look into the Mormon faith AFTER the race ended.
Now, since oft the two are intertwined, I will point out the contradictions put forth by his supporters when that arises, but you will find that other than a comment I disagree with them, or find their ideas “interesting” at best in a sentence for contest, I limit my comments to Mitt's politics, or the contradictions of his supporters on political threads.
I wish I had his patience...
A scholar and a gentleman....
Wow. This whole thread has turned into an ugly attack on Mormons. I could see why Kathleen Parker writes articles bashing the Religious Right.
I'm sorry that your past leaders words upset you so.
You need to back away from reading about MORMON history for awhile.
Headquarters sure has.
Woof!
Did he say it WAS?
It is ALWAYS a Mitt supporter who brings this up.
They can think of NO reason other than that.
Check out ANY supposed Mitt-bashing thread and see the conclusions that a Mitt supporter arrives at.
I'm sorry, but blaming his religion for his politic problems is a red herring at best.
Mormons bashing people. Who woulda thunk? You're right, those Mormons who bash others should be ashamed of themselves.
So it's ugly when it's *attacking* Mormons but justified when it's attacking the *Religious Right*?
Why is that?
:)
As Anti’s are want to do, you quote Joseph Fielding Smith in Answers to Gospel Questions, vol. 3, p. 26, 27, & yet only give a snippet to make your case & leave out some of the most important parts of explanation, in other words, your snippet was taken out of context. Surprise surprise.
Why is it that you left out the 2 scriptures he quotes?
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (”Matt. 5:48 Matthew 5:48.)
And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end. (”3 Ne. 27:19 III Nephi 27:19.)
These 2 scriptures tie in the rest of his thoughts on the snippets you presented. Do we believe that one must become perfect? Yes. That accords w/ Matt. 5:48Matthew 5:48. And that's where you left it? As someone who proports to know a lot about our beliefs, why did you leave out the part that we believe that no one will live perfect lives here on earth, but that we may become perfect by the grace of God through the atoning sacrifice of our Savior? In other words, through repentance made possible by the atonement.
When we sincerely repent, we are for forgiven & thus made whole again. So, even though we will all fall short of 100% on our own, we can reach 100% by repentance through the atonement. Why did you leave that part out Colo? What were your motives? Surely you know these things. Why would you take those things out of context like that? Was this just something you took from an anti site & just took for truth? Or did you really know & just not share the whole picture?
That's the beef we have w/ you anti’s. It's not that you're fellow Christians that happen to have a different point of view. We respect that. What we don't respect are those that purposely or otherwise, take our beliefs & contort, misrepresent, misquote, lie, & often take out of context, our writings & the beliefs therein.
It's a shame that “Christians” would do that to fellow Christians in the name of Christianity to simply prove they are right. If one stops & thinks about it, it's not very Christian at all imho. Your motives are between you & the Lord so I'll not lay charge to that part. But really, you do need to stop & think about what you're doing. You folks get caught in these activities all the time. Do you really feel it furthers your cause?
Listen, I've got a Sabbath to attend to in which I will turn my full attention to the Lord. I'll not interrupt that w/ further banter here that would do nothing but take away from the spirit of the day. Have a great Sabbath my FRiend, & as always, my best to you & yours on this sacred day & season.
WOW! Nefarious! Misleading! Incomplete! Disingenuous! Misrepresent! Misquote! Lie! Take out of context! Anti! Anti! Anti!
Tsk, tsk...sounds just like what LDS leaders have said about Christianity since Joseph Smith visited with two demonic beings in the forest.
