Bill Clinton mentioned for wife's Senate seat

After eight years as senator from New York, Hillary Clinton is trading places, moving from Congress to the incoming administration.

Former President Bill Clinton has been mentioned as a possible replacement for his wife in the Senate.

On Monday, President-elect Barack Obama announced that he asked his former rival to be his secretary of state.

That means the scramble begins to replace Clinton on Capitol Hill. Among those mentioned to take her seat as New York's junior senator is her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

At a news conference in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday, after Obama announced her selection, Clinton said she wanted to "thank my fellow New Yorkers who have, for eight years, given me the joy of a job I love with the opportunity to work on issues I care deeply, in a state that I cherish."

Clinton added that "leaving the Senate is very difficult for me."

The task of choosing a successor falls to David Paterson, New York's Democratic governor. Whomever he picks would serve for two years, before a special election in November 2010 to decide who fills the last two years of Clinton's term.

Nothing in his plea deal prevents the disgraced ex president from doing this?
Love to see him get impeached a second time!

There are certain people who I wish would just quietly retire and go play golf or shuffleboard or whatever.

John McCain would be one (yes, I voted for him.) and Bill Clinton would be another.

Oh man. If the Senate battle comes down to Spitzer vs. Bubba there will be a serious split in the hooker vote.

Bill Clinton will likely be the first Obama nominee to the Supreme Court.

They made the best deal that they could when Hillary dropped out of the Democrat Party nomination race.

They really must have the goods on Barak, but we all have known that for months.

About the only reason why I’d like to see it is that it would be a colossal “screw you” to Teddy Kennedy, who no doubt wants to see Caroline appointed as replacement.

Bill would suck all the air out of the Senate....and compete head-on with Obama. It’ll never happen - Hillary won’t risk her career any further. Besides, why would he want to take the cut in pay and have to deal with the Senate Ethics Committee regarding his speaking fees, advances, etc.?

I thought that perhaps the one good thing about Obama’s primary victory was that we were finally going to be rid of the clintons, who have been shoving themselves in our faces at every opportunity since leaving the White House.

I guess not.

He has much higher goals than being a mere Senator.

He may use it as a stepping stone though, as his wife and Obama did.

It would bring him **cringe** credibility.
