What does Sarah Palin and her ilk think I should do to become a real American?
For starters, stop calling yourself a “Sikh-American” and refer to yourself as an American.
Then, correct the worldview that presumes she was talking about skin color and grooming rather than belief in the principles of the Founding and the Constitution.
You are not a complete American because you do not know and support the ideas and principles that are the heart and soul of this country, and that would be just as true if you looked like Stan Smith.
BTW, for presuming that that the ‘Cuda was talking about ethnicity: Shut your stupid mouth, ya ignorant POS.
Wasnt Indira Gandhi, the Indian PM, assassinated by her Sikh-Indian body guards? I agree with Canedawg, when is I. J. Singh going to start calling himself an American-American?
First, you ask about "appearances"....It doesn't matter what you look like to be a "real" American... Being a "real" American comes from the heart, not the wardrobe or hair style... Anyone with any sense at all realizes this... If you are not 100% totally committed to this country Called The United States of America, then you aren't a "real" American...period...end of story.... No "part-time" Americans...
Beat me to it. I have ancestors generations back who were German, some who were Welch, and some who were Irish. I like sausage, I adore choral singing, and I have red hair. And I am an American. I owe no coin to where my people once were, and I give no honor to what was by inventing for myself a "dashed American" status.
Hey, Mr. Dressed-Like-Somewhere-Else, you go right ahead and do it. You wanna be proud of who your people were a bazillion years ago, fine. But if you act like "you aren't from around here" on purpose, not everyone will agree. The great thing about America is that we have the freedom not to like you, and that we are not yet compelled by law to pretend that we think whatever ideas you hold dear are just as good as the ones we love in our own brainpans. (At least, not outside of our socialist-run schools, anyway.)
I defend your right to act like a complete and utter foreigner, but be warned, not everyone you meet will think that is a good thing.
What about the ‘long history of slavery and the Blacks’. The United States was founded in 1776, and slavery was abolished in 1865. That’s less than 100 years. How long was slavery in the British empire?
Also, how did African’s get introduced into slavery? By being dominated by another African tribe, then sold by that tribe.
Slavery - the original black-on-black CRIME.
I’ve met a lot of Sikhs, and none were the kind of whiny little bastard this guy seems to be.
I guess it’s more important to him to be PC and an identity victim than to follow the tenets of his faith and the traditions of his people.
