Jeb Bush to GOP: Don't Become 'Democrat-Lite'

By: David A. Patten
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tells Newsmax that the GOP must broaden its appeal to avoid becoming the old white-guy party, and recommends that Republicans create a shadow government to engage Democrats on important issues as the incoming Obama administration seeks to enact its agenda.
In a wide-ranging interview with Newsmax, the popular former governor and younger brother of President George W. Bush said the 2008 election was neither transformational nor a landslide. For example, he noted that Barack Obama's significant fundraising advantage over John McCain played a key role in Democratic success this year.
Bush urged Republicans not to abandon their core conservative principles in favor of a "Democratic-lite" agenda. Still, he says the GOP does need to do some real soul-searching.

YES-YES-YES. WE elected the wrong Bush!
Yikes! Can’t wait to see this little thread wind up.
Why didn't he say that to his brother, Jorge?
Wouldn't that be a move to the right?
L
No more Bushes, please...
I always thought Jeb would have been better. I think we have been burned twice. GW was good except on amnesty and for dozing off over the past 2 years. I hope this is not a play for Jeb to run in 2012. I will not take a chance the third time. I guess a monarchy is better than the coming marxist cadre.
Oops - too late!
Shame too because we'll never elect another one.
Ummm - that advice would have been more helpful if given to and heeded by your father and your brother.
I think there is more to this article than meets the eye. I don’t believe that Jeb Bush threw his brother under the bus, red meat for the BDS crowd, including many here with questionable motives.
Gee Jeb, thanks for telling us now. Doncha think you could have given your Bro this talk back in 2000? Heck of a job he did in pissing on conservatisim just before he took a huge dump on it only to stomp up and down on it.
No BUSH should ever run for office again. It’s enough to make me never want to see Bush again!!!
This from ain't-no-way-you're-gonna-drill-off-the-coast-of-florida-bush???
OPEN LETTER TO JEB BUSH:
OK that’s a good quote Governor. A good thought. Good advice.
But do you have ANY idea how outraged the people who agree with what you just said are, about the jailing of those two Border Agents?...
Here’s a simple hint. Governor Bush, if you would like to run for the office of President, and win, you should start with one very simple step:
Publicly call for your Brother to PARDON, those two Border Agents.
Don’t pull him aside. Don’t call him.
Call a press conference, and demand it.
Then, call him, and make it happen.
If you do that, you’ll get my vote. For Sarah’s running mate... ;)
Seriously Governor. Your brother has *badly* mishandled the border and especially those two agents.
Do something about it.
Then talk about that idea of “democrat-lite”.
You’ll have more street cred.
I have Bush fatigue, thanks for the advice Jeb. Now go hunker down in Kennebunkport with the rest of the tribe. Later you can assume “elder statesman” status with the GOP
Bump.
I guess we can just forget about that content of character stuff .
The real tragedy of W is not only did his failures cause the dims to retake the Congress, it also prevented his far superior brother from being POTUS.
