You are right. Jindal would lose the non-white vote just like white Republicans do. He may do it by smaller margins, but in absolute terms it may in fact be worse by the time he runs for President.

If Jindal proves himself as governor, then I would have no problem supporting him, but I can’t help but shake the feeling that many in the party are excited about him simply because he is not white. That in and of itself just goes to show what a demographic hole the GOP has put themselves in by refusing to reduce immigration when they had the chance. Starting with Nixon, or at least with Reagan, they could have corrected the 1965 Immigration Reform act, but they didn’t, and it is now approaching a point of no return.

That’s what I am beginning to suspect as well. Michael Steele is on record as backing affirmative actions, set asides, and all the big government intrusions that go with it. He is also fine with the Assault Weapons Ban stating only that he is against a ‘total ban’ of firearms, but for hunting they are acceptable.

I fail to understand the support that guy has either. It looks to me like the GOP, and too many conservatives think identity politics can work for the right. They cannot.
