That’s what I am beginning to suspect as well. Michael Steele is on record as backing affirmative actions, set asides, and all the big government intrusions that go with it. He is also fine with the Assault Weapons Ban stating only that he is against a ‘total ban’ of firearms, but for hunting they are acceptable.

I fail to understand the support that guy has either. It looks to me like the GOP, and too many conservatives think identity politics can work for the right. They cannot.

If Steele is one of those “I support the Second Amendment rights of hunters and sport-shooters”, then I hope his bid to be RNC chair fails. This is the type of nonsense Democrats say, and it is an insult because the Second Amendment is not about hunting or sport shooting. It is about the right to self-defense, and about the virtues of having an armed populace. Hunting is important, but it is secondary.

If Steele supports racial/ethnic preferences, then that is another reason to oppose him. If the GOP thinks that caving on preferences, and embracing diversity-worship will win over non-whites, then they are sadly mistaken. The type of voter who is driven by such issues is a leftist at heart, and they will not go for a Democrat-lite GOP when they can have the real thing.
