A Sig Sauer P232 is a nice gun for a smaller hand. It's a .380 (9mm short). If you use a hydroshock style round, you have decent firepower but won't have to worry that your bullet will end up going through three or four walls and a couple of counties before stopping.

The P232 is a direct blowback weapon and has fairly snappy recoil, worse than a 9mm Browning High Power or a 9mm XD or Glock 26.
