WASHINGTON President-elect Barack Obama is weighing prospects for energy secretary...
Possible candidates mentioned to head the department range from Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., to Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Dan Reicher, who directs energy initiatives at a Google foundation. Another candidate that had been mentioned is Houston Mayor Bill White...
Reicher, 52, is, perhaps, the most prominent contender for an out-of-the-box choice. The biology major at Dartmouth and a graduate of Stanford law school served in the Clinton administration as an assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy. He now heads climate change and energy initiatives at Google.org, a philanthropy funded by the Mountain View, Calif., Internet company.
On Capitol Hill, Obama could turn to Bingaman, 65. The chairman of the Energy Committee, who has served in the Senate for 25 years, could play a major role as lawmakers consider how to create a cap-and-trade system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But Bingaman has repeatedly signaled interest in remaining in the Senate.
Former Rep. Philip R. Sharp, D-Ind., 66, also has been mentioned. A veteran Democratic congressman from Indiana, the one-time director of Harvard's Institute of Politics leads the nonprofit think tank Resources for the Future, which provides policy research.
White, 54, who is in his second term as mayor, also has been cited as a possible candidate for the Energy Department post after serving as deputy energy secretary during President Bill Clinton's first term... But White spokesman Frank Michel said the mayor "is not lobbying or jockeying for a position, and he's not been vetted." White has hinted interest in mounting political campaigns in 2010, either for a Senate seat or for governor.
Sebelius, 60, has pressed recycling during her term as governor and vetoed a bill authorizing construction of coal-fired power plants...

Houston PING
This is the “Change” duped Americans voted for.
How sad!
For those who don’t know our beloved dipstick Mayor White, perhaps his greatest accomplishment is the ‘safeclear’ program wherein he arrests stranded motorists for refusing a tow.
Can you change a flat in six minutes? In Houston, you better.
None of these look good, but any would be better than RFK Jr.
Were I he (BHO), I’d nominate Sarah Palin. After all she is a self styled “energy expert” and boy howdy, the howling from both far starboard and far port wings would be funny! Besides, she’d make entertaining TV ...
Bill White???????
Why??????
What about Immelt?
Be thankful it isn’t Chris Bell. That fool has run for every office in the state and is making the rounds again (having lost).
I loathe career politicians. Especially on the Left.
GOOD thing is with all of these Clintonistas in the next administration, there will be fewer members of the Clinton Administration to run for Houston Mayor (both the Brown guy and the White guy were Clintonistas).
I am also sicked that these NON-Houstonians keep running our city into the ground with “change” that they won’t live under.
I liked my big-small town as it was, very much.
Now we have billions of dollars in stadiums, million dollar vacant night clubs downtown, a 2 lane main street, and debt.
Too bad Ken Lay kicked the bucket.
Yet another member of Obama’s team from the Council on Foreign Relations.
Not unusual, the CFR/ bank trust folks have ruled this country since the creation of the Federal Reserve.

“(both the Brown guy and the White guy were Clintonistas).”
I worked under Lanier and Brown. Dr. Brown, with his ‘riderhood’, was probably the worst mayor Houston ever saw.
During the primary he said “Al Gore” would have a position, and you know he is the “global warming” chief.
Mayor Bill gave us the Terror Train don't forget.
I am unware of such a charge against Chris Bell. But he did launch the partisan investigation into Tom DeLay (that succeeded in getting DeLay to step down but never a conviction or trial).
Chris Bell has lost his bids for Mayor, Congress, Governor, and possibly state senate (now in a run off election).
Bill White was Harris County Democrat Chair wasn't he.
