I wonder if that is the book I had to read in Political Geography a million years ago? 1986? It should made a lot of sense, you could see how it could happen.

It probably is as it came out in '81 and was used in those very sorts of classes. Garreau was/is a journalist and at some time in his career he had a boss who carved up the country into huge regions with the understanding that certain stories, certain events could only happen in one region and not another.

I cannot remember any examples from the book because all I needed to understand was how cults, especially the suicide cults, only happen on the West Coast. I wonder if he would alter the boundaries of the map today.
