They'd be better off banning the use of Windows. That is a very profound statement, and true statement. DoD already has moved toward Apple servers. They should adopt Mac desktops and laptops also. Our troops deserve the best.

No, DoD should not move toward Macs. We used them in my area for a few years and got rid of them by the end of 2004. I can dispel the myth that Macs don’t crash, we used OSX and it was the biggest piece of crap ever. Performance was terrible and applications would freeze all over the place.
I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that DoD is moving toward Apple, that isn’t true at all. All new computers are loaded with Vista. They’d be better loading legacy Win XP, but you can’t buy it anymore.

In most secure area’s I worked in windows were usually banned, of course, most of the places were located in the basement, so there was nothing to see even if they put windows into the basement walls.

The Pentagon would be best going with their own systems and OS software developed specifically for them.

Macs are the best. Plus this news report is being reported on a site that has seen its share of tech problems, this should be seen as a major wake up call.

Well, when Apple becomes more popular and used than Windows it will be the target of hackers. The most popular kid on the block always wants to be taken down by others.

DoD should use NO commercial software. They should have their own research/development division which write secure software specific to and only available to the military.

Don't believe the hype.
I was reading a report on a Linux site that told of how at a recent security conference, the Mac was the first OS to be taken over using "known vulnerabilities" in browsers. The PC was second, and Linux wasn't taken over at all during the 3 days, but the report stressed that ALL OS are vulnerable to attacks targeting browsers.

Any system can be hacked!!! Not just Windows. If they want a more difficult system to hack, then they need something that is proprietary to the DoD. Apple is JUST as hackable, it's just not as popular so you have less main stream viruses hitting those systems, as is Linux and other Unix based systems.

That is very interesting! You mean you believe they are moving to Apple for security reasons, not just purely IT reasons?
