Bringing a thumb drive or other media into a classified environment will probably get your clearance pulled. There is a valid concern about viruses coming into the environment and classified data leaving improperly.

This ban is on all govt owned computers, not jus those that handle classified data.

That’s certainly true now, and it’s a good thing.
Out in the field things have been looser.

If it’s a gov’t issued thumb drive they are allowed to be hooked up to unclass computers, even in a classified office. Well at least until this week. All thumb drives must be turned in immediately.
