Romney was just interviewed on Fox and Friends and said that it was unfair that that the Big Three American Automakers were burdened by the high retirement costs and that we had to "make sure those cost were shared by the transplants (Toyota, Honda, VW etc.).
Thanks for those figures. This is what Mitt was pointing out.
I would suggest that you listen and think before commenting.
Been listening to Romney for days and haven’t heard a single comment along those lines.
Shape-shifter Myth Romney: Make all the promises you have to...
That being shared by the transplants is NUTS, but I have a question about the retirees.
When you work for a company, part of your wages are benefits, the same as if those dollars were included in your pay, and you then turned around and gave that money back to the company to buy insurance and put into retirement or whatever.
Shouldn’t those benefits have to be honored?
I should note we don’t have any such benefits and have never worked...is it in, or for, a union, so we are not familair with the workings of one.
Some people thought he was a conservative.
"I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)
"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldnt make any sense at all.""
-- President Ronald Reagan
I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform."
(Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)
"A political party cannot be all things to all people.
It must represent certain fundamental beliefs
which must not be compromised to political expediency
or simply to swell its numbers."
-- President Ronald Reagan
I believe they had a contract for their benefits, and the only ways out of such an obligation would be: 1) the bankruptcy of their contracting party, 2) their voluntary, possibly negotiated giveback of such benefits or 3) overriding legislation. ‘Saving Detroit’ is contingent on getting around those contracted benefits by one or more of these routes.
When he was trying to win the Michigan primaries against McCain, which he did win, Mitt proposed 25 billion to Detroit for ‘research’, wink wink, nod nod.
The state is now broke is is cutting programs. Romneycare is now only kept alive by 3-5 billion a year from the Feds, and you, my fellow citizens. So work harder so that Mass political hacks can dig deeper into Romneycare and direct money to themselves and their friends.
Would someone please tell me, WHO’S NOT A SOCIALIST?
For future reference:
(Fill in blank for any president) was packaged, marketed and elected by the same international socialist elites (CFR, Bilderbergs, banking families, etc) who have elected every president in the last 80+ years.
Until Americans figure this out and quit falling for all the hype, we’ll continue to get *their* candidates.
If you are a serial political flip flopper, on both sides of everything, a liberal a conservative....it makes sense.
The poster obviously heard what he wanted to hear. I listened to Mitt on Cavuto and H&D AND DID NOT HEAR THAT. NAVVET IS OBVIOUSLY A MITT HATER WHO HEARS WHAT HE WANTS TO HEAR. SAME DISEASE AS LIBERALISM.
Sorry, I lived with Mitt the Politician for almost now 15 years. It sounds very typically Mitt.
(BTW I actually feel sorry for the guy. He doesn’t know who he is. He knows what he wants, but not why. )
Went to the link, saw nothing like what you said.
We need to get the big 3 to reduce their pension costs to that of the foreign companies.
You are full of crap. You have that liberalism disease. You only hear what you want to hear. I HEARD MITT ON CAVUTO AND H&C. IF YOU HAVE ANY HONOR YOU WILL GET THIS CRAP YOU MADE UP IN YOUR TWISTED MIND PULLED.
So you are saying that unless they get the bailout money or manage to stay afloat some other way, those retirees WILL lose their retirement?
If so, wow...how do these people survive? I cannot imagine being 70 years old and poof, all of a sudden your retirement is gone.
THIS IS A LIE. HE WAS COMPARING THE CAR MAKERS NOT IN TROUBLE TO NOT HAVING THESE PROBLEMS.
Yeah, and yet many FReepers will tell you that Romney is moving to the right.
