According to Newsweek President-elect Obama has decided to tap Eric Holder as his attorney general, putting the veteran Washington lawyer in place to become the first African-American to head the Justice Department, according to two legal sources close to the presidential transition.
Holder, who served as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration, still has to undergo a formal “vetting” review by the Obama transition team before the selection is final and is publicly announced, said one of the sources, who asked not to be identified talking about the transition process. But in the discussions over the past few days, Obama offered Holder the job and he accepted, the source said. The announcement is not likely until after Obama announces his choices to lead the Treasury and State departments.

When I heard that this morning I almost choked.
As acting attorney general before Ashcroft’s confirmation, Holder made the decision not to prosecute the cops in the Amadou Diallo case on civil rights charges so he can’t be that bad;-)

Eric Holder was Janet Reno’s handmaiden and practically ran the Justice Department. He was defense counsel in chief at the Justice Dept to protect Clinton during the Lewinsky impeachment. He also was instrumental in brutally sending Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba. Other people like Holder; I think he’s scum.

How do we know? If true (and I have few doubts, knowing who made the nomination, is there anything in Holder's background that can be used to shoot down (pun intended) his nomination?
