Sex-abuse caseworker accused of soliciting Monday, November 17, 2008 9:50 PM By John Futty THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH A Franklin County caseworker who investigates child sexual abuse is accused of soliciting a Columbus vice detective for sex at her Far West Side condominium.
Vanise M. Dunn, an employee of Franklin County Children Services, was arrested at 11:41 a.m. Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of prostitution. Police say she offered the detective oral sex for $150.
She pleaded not guilty on Friday and requested a jury trial.
Dunn, 31, was placed on paid leave pending an investigation into whether she violated agency policy, said Doris Calloway Moore, a Children Services spokeswoman.
No one answered the door at Dunn's home in the Hilliard Village Condominiums off Hilliard-Rome Road this afternoon. Her phone number is unlisted. Her attorney, James Tyack, said it was too early to comment.
Police aren't saying why a vice officer went to her home because the investigation is continuing, said Amanda Ford, a division spokeswoman.
Dunn was hired by the county agency in September 2000, three months after she received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Ohio State University, according to her personnel file. She has been a caseworker in the agency's sexual-abuse unit since 2004. In that role, she "handles a variety of sexual-abuse cases, including small children, teenagers and multiple victims," according to recent performance evaluations.
The annual evaluations consistently rated her performance as "acceptable," with no absentee problems. Her annual salary is listed in county records as $37,585.
Dunn's duties as a caseworker have included working with officers in the Police Division's sexual-assault section who are assigned to the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Ford said.
