Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back

Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.

Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!”

The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson – who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary – as well as those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

where is your sarc tag? Seriously you say “Go Huckster” and then praise Jindle/Palin....who are you with? God I hope you denounce that nonsense about Huckster. He is a big joke and his show is about as bad as he is. He is pathetic and I truly believe has the fugliest family I have ever witnessed in the World and I have been to 33 countries.

Romney is more conservative than McCain that’s for sure. Imagine if it were Romney in those debates against Obama...

Imagine if none of the three RINO bas****s, McCain, Romney or Huckabee, ever ran for another office under the republican ticket, wouldn't that be nice. You guys need to get over these a**hats, they are RINOs and we need no more of them. If people persist in voting these RINOs there will be no republican party in 2012, or at least it will be much smaller that it is now.

There were a number of us who didn't want to vote for a RINO this year but we swallowed our pride one more time, especially after Palin came on the scene, but we ended up with exactly what we would have gotten if we had stood by our principles, a frickin' communist in the WH.

Never again, I will not vote for the likes of Huckabee or Romney or the lazy a**ed Fred either. A real conservative or nothing. We need Palin, we also need Jindal and any others like those two. Any republican who thinks other wise is following the republicans into obscurity.

At least at some point Romney became conservative. Huckaberry has never been.

I find something interesting about this. Huckabee arguably ensured McCain’s nomination by diluting Romney’s base.

But, who was on the campaign trail with McCain? The only place I heard or saw ‘ol Huck was on his lame tv show.

That says one of three things to me (and maybe all):
1) Huck didn’t want McCain to win because of his quest for power
2) McCain thought Huck had absolutely no appeal to general election voters
3) McCain didn’t want to owe Huck anything

All three are red flags in my book. I’ll never forgive Huck for doing that dumb cross commercial then trying to lie about it and say he didn’t know. Either dumb or a liar. I think the latter.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,”

Ah, no it’s not. Huck is a creepy dude. I don’t trust. Having said that, I didn’t see any of the front runners in the GOP as viable candidates. McCain was the weakest.

Who wins in a Huckabee v. Romney matchup?

Sarah Palin.

These two has-beens will fight each other into oblivion while Sarah gets on with the actual business of running in 2012.

We have a hard enough time keeping conservatives from becoming moderates. Surely, we ought not exacerbate the problem by shunning moderates who become conservatives.

well said

Huckabee has a book to sell. I just hope Huckabee and McCain will not have a role in the future of this country. Both of them adore illegal aliens, although McCain more than the Huckster.

I can't find any fault in that statement at all.

I would go one further. Let's ban all political parties, all lobbyists, all PAC's, and all "lawyers".

I would take Hucklebee any day of the week over what we have now.

Do you mean what we have RIGHT now or what we are going to have in about two months? If you are talking about at this very moment you must be out of your mind. If you are talking about in a couple of months I will agree, but just barely.

It isn't for nothing he is known as the Huckster. He undoubtedly needed some shots like this to get press so he can sell his book . Its working so far.

Huckastupid continues to think he’s relevant. He’s about as relevant as a hemorrhoid, but at least they eventually go away.... kinda. ;>)

Romney is no conservative, and if he is the nominee in 2012, the GOP can count on another loss.

I know many Huck supporters who are crazy about Palin. He may be very surprised in 2012 if she runs.
