Huck unloads on Mitt; Romney camp hits back

Mike Huckabee is using his new book, out this week, to settle a few scores, not the least of which is with his fierce primary rival, Mitt Romney.

Per Michael Scherer, Huckabee picks up where he left off earlier this year, tweaking Romney as a rich guy and firing what may be the first shots of the 2012 primary.

Romney, Huckabee, writes, was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

At another point, Huckabee portrays a Romney proposal to encourage more investment in the market as, "Let them eat stocks!”

The former Arkansas governor also takes a shot at Fred Thompson – who ensured his defeat in the pivotal South Carolina primary – as well as those evangelical leaders who didn’t get behind his bid.

But none of these people may emerge again in four years as political rivals of Huckabee.

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

“This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee,” Fehrnstrom. “If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

So you believe a guy that drifted right after he started running for President? Then you must love the right of center centrist that Obama became in the general election.

Anyone that waits until the campaign to clarify where they stand after years of being more liberal, I don’t trust.

Both of these men need to sit down and shut up! Neither one will get the nomination for 2012. Had enough of the men running in the 2008 primary to last for a long time and don’t want to see any of them come back to run again for President.

"Most of his bashing of Romney centers around his wealth. We have Pres. Elect Obama a spread the wealth socialist taking office and all Huck can do now is go after Romney for his belief in Capitalism. Huck has always been a spread the wealth populist and like liberals is just showing his jealousy about it."

Between paid speaking engagements, his Fox show and now another book, the Huckster is managing to keep his cash flow looking good..

But judging from his recent appearances, he looks like he's digging his own grave with a knife and fork these days. Maybe he should revisit his own book?

I’m not saying you should vote for him. Just that the more people that become conservatives— the better. No need to mock and deride those that do.

Let us save the mocking and derision for those conservatives that forget conservatism— rather than those moderates that discover it.

I am very happy. Why are you such a loser?

That is a personal attack and has no place in FR.

Smoke? What brand?

They could have at least waited another week or two.

Wow, you did research on all of them huh? That is incredible. Thank God that these Christian churches are run by people, people who are not perfect and are not going to be in charge of judging people in the afterlife. If I was you, I would concentrate on myself and not run around telling people that they are not Christians. Also, you might want to research Pope John Paul’s comments on the Mormon church.

Surprise. Surprise. Denials right from the House of Romney.
And with the typical ad hominems of the Romney attack posse.

So why are you all such cowards, doing things with
secret badges, and secret pushpolls, and secret
backstabbings? And why did you all help Obama win?

I am not sure why this post is directed to me, but let me just say that, if this is in fact true, I am even more disgusted. I am a dog lover. In fact, I think I love dogs more than I love people. If one of this man’s sons did this to a dog, then **** him, he should do 10 years, and if Hucklebungle used his position to shield him , then **** him too!

Can we just let these RINOS fight in a “Cage Match”-neither one is perfect, however Romney is waaay more liberal than Huck (who actuall has a few common sense ideas every once in a while)!

ALL: Even after the recent insanity regarding Sarah Palin, are you a being a sucker for people who want to blow up rivalries and sow division among Republicans/conservatives/Americanists. Considering the low turnout for McCain/Palin, how do you think we got here?

Gotta go with Romney on this one. At least Romney has been successful in the private sector. Although if Mitt had been governor of ANY state but Mass. it would ease my mind about him considerably. I still just don’t see Huckabee’s appeal.

Huckabee is out there campaigning still. He’s on fox getting a groundwork laid for 2012. Writing books and doing whatever it takes to stay in the public eye. He will run in ‘12. And if we still have this half-assed primary where the media and Dems choose our candidates be prepared for Obama vs. Huckabee.

Personally, I think either Palin or Jindal needs to start peparing for their own run. I know its early but they need to get some biographies or something up and running now to keep the primary process as short as possible. A drawn out primary that fractures the party due to something stupid like (Mormon vs. Christian) is exactly what we don’t need.

I’m just telling you what the Christian churches say, and the Catholic church does not accept their baptism as a Christian baptism.

I agree with more people that become conservatives the better but when those conservatives are running for office excuse me for being skeptical. When he was Governor of MA, he wasn’t the least bit conservative and all of a sudden he runs for President and he is a conservative.

He also supported McCain with the bailout and was in the meeting before McCain flew to DC. I didn’t consider that conservative.

I don’t trust any politician that does a drastic change and that means any! I would have had more respect if he didn’t pander to the right and that is what it was.

When Reagan ran for office and won, Romney became an independent because Reagan was too far right but now you want me to believe after all these years as a moderate to leftist, he found the right?

I am not voting or supporting ANYONE that ran in the 2008 GOP primaries in 2012. As for the sniping, Rudy didn’t undermine Romney, Thompson didn’t undermine Romney, McCain didn’t undermine Romney, and Huckabee didn’t undermine Romney but Romney through Politico tried to take out the rest. In fact, he tried to buy his way to the nomination with his own funds.

Maybe someday some of the Romney people will realize that his words before he ran and while running were not the same. I wonder why? Don’t bother to answer, the vast majority of us know why.

Nobody pissed in my coffee, I don’t drink coffee. Somebody does keep mentioning the old RINOs and I am tired of them, period, and told you how I felt. Romney would have done just as bad as McCain. Why? Because his a** is as leathery as McCain’s and his horn just as long. I expressed my opinion about RINOs, take it personally if you want but I am tired of those jackasses ruining a once free country that is poised to descend into slavery under communist rule. Take that to the bank.

Again, I’m not telling you to vote for Romney. Hell, I won’t be.

But it does not serve our party or the ideals that we share and seek to advance to attack those that move in a conservative direction.

If Lincoln Chafee tomorrow became a Tom Trancedo/Duncan Hunter right-winger— I’d welcome it. As should we all. It makes absolutely no sense to bash a moderate like Romney for coming around to our point of view.

And it makes even less sense to bash Romney for trying to win an election by attacking his opponents and using a lot of money to do so. As evidenced by Barack Obama and John Mccain— if you’re unwilling or unable to do those two things— you lose.
