Are you trying to claim that Obama and McCain working together would actually be good for the country?

Dream on.

Very good point. They differed on policy but after hours they put the acrimony on the shelf. Neither side seems to be willing to do that any more and when they try they wind up wearing arrows in their backs shot from their own side.

I don’t think liberalism and core conservatism have changed all that much but the attitudes sure have.

Barry Goldwater would never have let that happen. He was a real man and would have called the Democrats poopyheads and stuck his tongue out at them.

In the real world, he and JFK were very good friends. He intended to run against Kennedy in '64 and Kennedy knew it. They were going to campaign together across the country. According to the plan they were going to make joint appearances and present their differing views and let the voters decide which they preferred. He had a huge respect for Kennedy and was devestated at the assassination. Kennedy, in turn, admired and respected Goldwater.
