GOP applauds Hillary as potential secretary of state
Newsday ^

Posted on 11/16/2008 6:35:21 PM PST by mathwhizz

Hillary Clinton would be "a very good selection" as secretary of state, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, Jon Kyle of Arizona, said in an interview with Fox News Sunday morning. "It seems to me she's got the experience. She's got the temperament for it. I think she would be well received around the world," Kyl said.

Sen. Byron Dorgan (R, N.D.) told Fox he didn't think she would have trouble winning confirmation. "She's worked across the aisle, has good bipartisan relationships" and "would have instant credibility around the world," he added. The U.S. has "a lot of relationships to repair and a lot of work to do, so I think she'd be a fine choice."

Obama and Clinton have done nothing to tamp down speculation on the widely leaked news that she traveled to meet with him in Chicago Thursday and discussed the possibility of the State Department job. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is also reported to have met with Obama last week and others, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, are reportedly also being considered for the post.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger told the World Economic Forum's India meeting he thought giving Clinton the job "would be an outstanding appointment," adding it would also show "great courage" on Obama's part.

In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said such an appointment "could be a great move."

Ease up folks! We’re not going to get the ghost of Jesse Helms appointed as Obama Sec State. Hillary is a much less suckie choice than many of the O’options. And she keeps John Francois in his closet as the chair of the Small Business Committee. That’s by far the best part.

They need to spell “Kyl” correctly, but what the heck. Is this party really the opposition party? They seem to be nothing but bootlickers.

Why be "embarrassed" by the GOP when the article headline is fraudulent and the facts are wrong? Listing 4 people and claiming that "the GOP" does anything is ridiculous. We could easily find 4 Democrats who support President Bush and claim "Democrat Party supports Bush", could we not?

But wait, there's more -- Senator Dorgan is a Democrat! And anyone who thinks Kissinger and Schwarzenegger are representative of the Republican Party knows nothing. It is easy to dismiss this kind of garbage.

Sincerely.

If Bush I and Bush II and their “reach across the aisle” don't prove to the GOP that the Left hates us no matter what we do, then they are a lost cause.

Complimenting the enemy does not help our cause.

Actually... I don't think you are looking at the big picture... Hillary, while ethically challenged... is more of a centrist like Bill is... and she will have more influence to stop Obama's worst economic ideas...

Now I know some of you are wishing the Dems can totally trash the country so the GOP can come back to power... be careful what you wish for... you might just get it.

RE: "When we as a party applaud Hillary Clinton, you know our days are numbered."

When she starts a screechin'
The foreigner will accept what we're preachin'

Ergo, good choice for Secretary of State! :)

Oh...my...gosh. Is there ANY wonder why "Republicans" lost so badly? Any? I am embarrassed to call myself a Republican.

Pssssst. That's a typo. Byron (The Hairpiece) Dorgan is a Democrat. Cease being embarrassed.

He may be thinking of 1012. Having Hillery occupied at State or other high profile Cabinet post takes her out of the running.

I hope and pray that you're setting your calendar back too far. I think we're stepping back 25 years ... into 1984, not into the Dark Ages.

It’s just smart politics. I don’t think she would go for it, but wouldn’t you rather have her working for BHO for 4 years than sitting in the Senate for another 25 years?

No fan of Hillary but lets get real.
Obama won’t pick a conservative republican for Sec. of St.
The people mentioned such as Bill Richardson, etc. would be much worse especially Bill being half Hispanic and more liberal.
Given a choice, Hillary being a Liberal delux but not quite the same as the Obama tribe.

Or, perhaps Obama wants to keep an eye on her, you know wasn’t it Corleone (Godfather) who said you keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

I just don't get this. Can we PLEASE learn from the Dems?

EVERY "good" suggestion they have? We are "disappointed." "Extremely disappointed." "We are concerned at their lack of judgement."

Every bad move they make? "We are outraged." "This isn't acceptable."

My God, it's like watching a bad football team get penalty after penalty. (And I didn't mention the Cowboys.)

“Qualified” is so nebulous a term as to be irrelevant.

She's as Marxist as Obammie the Commie. Or have you forgotten “Hillary Care” and how she locked the public out of the attempt to nationalize 1/7th of the nation's economy.

The last thing the alleged party of conservatives should be doing is complimenting communists and socialists.

Robert Bork was more than qualified to be on the USSC. That didn't stop the Left from destroying him.

1) FBI files still at large?

— OR —

2) The spineless cowards in the Republican party have yet to locate their long lost balls.
:::::::::::
I would say BOTH. The Republican party is a total mess, and is really just an adjunct to the Dims. That is why, after forty five years a dedicated, supportive Republican, am now an INDEPENDENT. When the Repubs abandoned conservatism, I abandoned them....

I don’t think he (read: George Soros) has any plans to include Hillary

Actually, it would make political sense for him to do it. The executive & legislative branches balance and check one another. In the senate she can oppose him. As a cabinet member, he would be her boss.
