GOP applauds Hillary as potential secretary of state
Newsday ^

Posted on 11/16/2008 6:35:21 PM PST by mathwhizz

Hillary Clinton would be "a very good selection" as secretary of state, the Senate's second-ranking Republican, Jon Kyle of Arizona, said in an interview with Fox News Sunday morning. "It seems to me she's got the experience. She's got the temperament for it. I think she would be well received around the world," Kyl said.

Sen. Byron Dorgan (R, N.D.) told Fox he didn't think she would have trouble winning confirmation. "She's worked across the aisle, has good bipartisan relationships" and "would have instant credibility around the world," he added. The U.S. has "a lot of relationships to repair and a lot of work to do, so I think she'd be a fine choice."

Obama and Clinton have done nothing to tamp down speculation on the widely leaked news that she traveled to meet with him in Chicago Thursday and discussed the possibility of the State Department job. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is also reported to have met with Obama last week and others, including Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, are reportedly also being considered for the post.

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger told the World Economic Forum's India meeting he thought giving Clinton the job "would be an outstanding appointment," adding it would also show "great courage" on Obama's part.

In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said such an appointment "could be a great move."

With the cost of living and taxes in Kalifornia (notwithstanding the 30% of the population are criminals in most major cities; aka, illegal aliens), and the cost of housing being about twice what the same dwelling costs in flyover country, one can choose to live in such neighborhoods. I prefer the freedom of large spaces, without fear for my life at night or that of my family, and enjoy land that is sold by the acre, not by the square foot.

To each his own, but, no thanks, running a business that's viable in any locale, it is much more comfortable to live where you know your neighbors.....and can trust them when you're away.

Ahhh, OK ~ very rare “white stuff!”

I love San Diego and feel very safe here, esp being a military town.

I am enjoying our 86 degree weather in San Diego

I always find it humorous when people dis Calif.
and see they don’t have their state flag on their
home page. Probably where many are from, I wouldn’t either.

I feel sorry for ANYone not from San Diego.

How can they imagine what it’s like to live here?
Growing up with ice and snow in CO, I’m spoiled forever.

This place is as perfect as it gets. They can’t legislate weather ~ YET!

"I will take my San Diego neighborhood anytime"

All MY neighbors speak English, none are criminals hiding from law enforcement, the air is clean, and doors can be left un-locked without fear.

I prefer flyover country, myself.

Frank Lloyd Wright said something like, if you take the country and turn it on its side and shake vigorously, everything loose ends up in California.

Maybe that’s true, but folks sure do seem to want to come here, and there’s a lot of sour grapes from those who can’t.

Driving cross country a couple of years ago, helping our daughter move to Maine, we got a chance to appreciate flyover country like we’d never seen before. What a country we have ~ so much beauty and goodness, and so much variety.

It sure was good coming home again, though. Even with its problems, I wouldn’t trade San Diego, even if we do have to lock our doors. “;^)

A lot of folks visit Alcatraz, too, but not a lot of them want to LIVE there.

Been there visiting, too, and sure wouldn't care to live there today.

I’m glad you’re happy where you are.

Many, many folks are very happy here, too.
Happy folks are happy anywhere. Same goes for the chronically miserable.

My neighbors in their condos 600,000 up to 4 million a unit
speak English excet the ones who speak with European accents and are professionals in their work or ret.

Clean air here, live a few miles from the Ocean.

I have relatives in Ohio who have a lot of criminals and Mexicans around their area. Not my problem in my neighborhood.

San Diego is the size of the state of Connecticut with over 3.3 million population. What might go on 55 miles from me here has no affect in my neighborhood.

"San Diego is the size of the state of Connecticut"

As I mentioned, I've been to San Diego a few times.

Population density on my 5 acres is 4.

I kinda appreciate room to roam without a crowd, and enjoy neighbors who speak with an American accent, be they from the Midwest, New England, or all parts in between.

“Sen. Byron Dorgan (R, N.D.) told Fox he didn’t think she would have trouble winning confirmation.”

Wow, Dorgan isn’t a faux Republican, because he isn’t a Republican at all.

That’s what the MSM calls “bipartisanship.”
