What an extraordinarily misleading headline. Gingrich never said Palin would not be the future of the GOP, rather he said there are a number of rising stars and she is but one of them.

I agree. This is mainstream crap, trying to stir the pot so that conservatives stay disorganized. We don’t want to do to Palin what the Dems did to Hillary-—anoint her four years early, then have to re-tool while someone else comes on the scene. Yeah, they got lucky, with a once-in-a-lifetime guy. You won’t do that every election.

The headline is not misleading.

Newt said:

She’s not going to be the de facto [actual] leader.
Newt is trying to become relevant again.

Now by picking on a girl.

He had his chance to push conservative ideals and blew it

Agree,Newt is being honest here. We do not coronate our leaders. All Newt is saying that she has to fight for the title just like anyone else.

Yes. I have my reservations about Newt. I think he sold out to clinton during his last couple of years in office. But he didn’t diss Sarah, as the headline implies. All he says is that there are a number of promising players. Most Freepers, for instance, would also mention Bobby Jindal.

BUT I’m still not sure how far I trust Newt. I’m not sure if he’s acting for the good of the country and the conservative movement, or if he just wants to get back to center stage again. I guess we’ll see.

Bravo, Newt!

He said nothing to denigrate Governor Palin.

But Gingrich wisely took a little step toward removing the onus of “presumptive 2012 nominee” from Sara's shoulders.

I'm sure that suits he just fine, right now.

Bravo, Newt!

Technically you are correct.

However Newt is a clever man. He knew how it would be portrayed in the media. It's clearly a shot at Palin.

Why read the article when we can be outraged at the headline? /s

What an extraordinarily misleading headline.

Right you are. This is what Newt actually said...

I think Palin would even agree with this statement. She will help shape the future of the party.

This is just another example of how the media often divided the Republicans. Rather than jumping all over Newt, people should be incense with bias.

From the article: “I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Works for me. I remain extraordinarily underwhelmed by Gov. Palin.
