Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

So will you help her to do it?

That’s a clean break point with a receptive audience. And it still has a good contrast to what we will get over the next four years.

Then, join some of the Foreign policy groups (yep, CFR first).

You can't just "join" the Council on Foreign Relations. You have to be invited, and sponsored by an existing member.

Sarah Palin as she is today, with her current principles and beliefs, would never be allowed in. Furthermore, if she should modify those principles and beliefs to become acceptable to the CFR, she'd no longer be the Sarah Palin most of us here could support.

Nonsense. She could have a dozen members ready to sponsor her by tomorrow morning.

She needs to demonstrate an active interest in foreign policy matters and a certain commitment of energy to those ends. In her case it may be an imposed obligation but considering the likihood of her having a future impact on policy, she would be accepted immediately.

Her principles and beliefs are of no relevance so long as they are not grounded in complete ignorance.

Note to the Cult of Sarah: She needs to study before the rest of American outside of our little club can take her seriously.

We need to learn from Sarah. She's the professor of Common Sense 101A and Honest Government 101B.

From the article: “I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Works for me. I remain extraordinarily underwhelmed by Gov. Palin.

Nonsense. She could have a dozen members ready to sponsor her by tomorrow morning. ...

Yes, she "could" have, but only if she agreed or at least convinced them she'd "play ball" with their agendas...

Her principles and beliefs are of no relevance so long as they are not grounded in complete ignorance.

The nonsense and ignorance here is coming from you, as your comments aptly demonstrate.

Newt’s correct in that we have an extremely deep field of talent for the next election. 20 or 30 names? No, probably 5 or six at most.

I feel certain that Sarah will earn her way to the top of the ticket as she understands the need to be out in front for the next four years to articulate her vision for America.

She appears to be an extremely talented politician and will cause the others in the 2012 race to pick up their game, many of them dramatically. She is a huge asset for us and for the country.

The 2012 nominee will be somebody who is currently unknown outside their home turf.

If there should be a sports center there, the free market will create one. Let sports teams and their fans pay for their own toys.

You're a progressive liberal that doesn’t even pretend to believe in democracy?

"Democracy" is a fancy word for mob rule. I believe in a limited-government republic that remains confined to a set of core functions that emphatically do not include the provision of bread and circuses.

I pray he's right.

If we nominate Sarah Palin in 2012, our status as a regional party will become permanent.
