Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.
But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the partys leader, as some have predicted.
I think that she is going to be a significant player, said Gingrich during an interview on CBSs Face the Nation. But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. Shes not going to be the de facto leader.
Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

Pssst Newt...over here....Have you ever heard of Primaries Boy ?...where the people of the party are supposed to pick their candidate?...
Instead of whining about Sarah and who’s gonna be on first base by 2012, you all need to get out there and get our primaries closed and get rid of that idiotic campaign reform law which was terminally broken this time around...and while you’re at it, find out some top notch people who can run a national campaign, not a bunch of nit pickin, swill drinkin weasels that the old man hired on the cheap who leaked every inside detail to the MSM...
Now go get ‘em Boy...That’s it...ruff, ruff...
And I say that she won’t be bending her staffers over her Capitol Hill desk, if she gets one.
Didn't know what AIG does!!
(sarc)Yeah... she's a blatant redistributionist all right...(/sarc)
Not liking the idea of and being completely opposed are two different positions. In the first one,you can not like the ideal but still do it.
Note to the Cult of Sarah: She needs to study before the rest of American outside of our little club can take her seriously.
But she has a journalism degree...
Ginrich still trying to destroy the party, for the same reason as always: He hates conservatives.
Sarah Palin: The Ronald Reagan of the 21st century.
I like Sarah, but she needs to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the problems facing us in foreign and domestic policies. Otherwise, she will be seen as a folksy also-ran and will not be able to win over the masses.
Blaming "the media" for her image is a cop-out. Outstanding politicians in the past have managed to talk THROUGH the media to the people. Sarah hasn't demonstrated that just yet.
Flame away, Kool Aid drinkers. Just trying to be realistic.
Let’s not forget that Newt bankrolled Loretta Sanchez to defeat Bob Dornan.
People portrayed Reagan as they do Sarah. His excellent film work was rarely referenced, but “Bedtime for Bonzo” was brought up all the time.
She does seem to have the native intelligence to adapt to the situation and the best way to do that is to do that. Reagan didn't have a stellar academic record, either.
If I were to advise her, I would say to cultivate a group of smart, ambitious second tier foreign policy academics. There should be plenty to hitch their wagon to her star. Then, join some of the Foreign policy groups (yep, CFR first). Finally, she should pick a series of fights with conservative foreign policy wonks. That is where she can hone her skills and establish her creds.
Right now she is a little broadie who has a Great Adventure to tell her grandchildren about, but the potential is there. A lot of potential.
Yes, but Reagan was smart enough to talk THROUGH the media. He didn’t whine about “unfair treatment”, he actually broke through. Sarah needs to do this, but has so far proven unable to do so.
Well yeah. But my response was an ironic quote to mylife's surprise at your candidate. Michael Steele on Gun Control . No ban on your skeet hobby gun or your hunting piece, but society should draw lines on assault weapons and enforce them. Not much different to Obabma/Biden
Preferably, the "Crusaders for Democracy" ie the Wolfowitz/Podhoretz Mafia that has lead only to disastrous wars and Mission Creep that belongs back in the Democratic party.
Not true. In her debate with Biden, she spoke directly to the people, and it was awesome. She is great at it, and should do it all the more.
It shocked me when I heard him say it.
I liked Micheal Steele up until then.
A few others I’d trust...
Bobby Jindal
Mark Sanford
Jim DeMint
Michael Steele
She has potential, but she has ALOT of work to do between now and 2012.
Talent is where you find it. Reagan had that smarmy little drunk, Mike Deaver, who understood the media and held them at bay. He was a genius.
