Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.
But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.
“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”
Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

However Newt is a clever man. He knew how it would be portrayed in the media. It's clearly a shot at Palin.

Agreed. Only a complete idiot would not have known how his remark would be played by the MSM, particularly after the firestorm of criticism Palin has already experienced. Gingrich should have been prepared for this kind of question. I find it incomprehensible that he would not have been.
I'm disappointed in Gingrich.

Sorry Newt, she is the number one significant player and you and the rest of your rino pals best get used to it. We are intent upon re-establishing conservatism in the Republican party. If we fail in our mission, conservatism dies a political death, and so does the GOP. So failure is not an option.
You guys shoved “reach around” McCain done our throats and we had to swallow. No more my friend...no more of this crap will we eat.
We have better and they deserve a chance. McCain doesn’t get to decide the future of the party.

She has already governed and has doen quite well at it, as a business owner, mayor and Governor of the largest state of the Union. She has negotiated contracts with Canada and foreign oil companies and also has negotiated with Russia over fishing rights. So much for “foreign policy”. Economics, she has already proved herself there with what she has done in Alaska.”
You’re kidding, I hope. You and I know what you say is true, but that is not going to be good enough. 62 million American voters also have to believe it. She has to bone up on all the issues I mentioned. She has to spend a lot of time on public speaking skills and interview skills. That is how the game is played.
I said go back and govern well because a huge spotlight is going to shine on her the next four years. This is her opportunity to demonstrate to the masses that she is not the way she was portrayed by the MSM.

There is a certain eloquence to plain-spoken, common sense politicians instead of glib, pretentious, calculated pander-speak politicians who play to the George Will/Peggy Noonan-wing of the GOP.

This is just another example of how the media often divided the Republicans. Rather than jumping all over Newt, people should be incense with bias.
An angle that hasn’t been brought up yet on this thread is what exactly will happen, both good and bad, during Barack Obama’s entire first term as POTUS and during the next 2 years and beyond of a socialistic controlled Congress? Will leftists even allow future elections to occur? Will there really be one to more “9/11’s” during Obama’s Presidency? Will too many people become “government dependents” for the rest of their lives to the point where leftists never lose their political power at any point in the future? Will amnesty for illegal immigrants as well as allowing illegals to vote in all future U.S. elections succeed in maintaining a leftist political dominance for a very long time, if not forever? Will the U.S. really become a third world socialistic country for a very long time, if not forever? Will there really be a civil war between conservatives and leftists? Will there really be a nuclear war? Will there be any kind of worldwide outbreak of some kind of terrible illness that wipes out many of the world’s people? Will Obama really become very similar politically to many of the world’s worst dictators? Can both capitalism and conservatism ever make any kind of serious comebacks at anytime in the future of the U.S.? There are too many serious questions to ask between now and ‘10, ‘12, and beyond.
