Gingrich says Palin will not be the future GOP leader By Alexander Bolton Posted: 11/16/08 01:05 PM [ET]
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.
Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.
But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the partys leader, as some have predicted.
I think that she is going to be a significant player, said Gingrich during an interview on CBSs Face the Nation. But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. Shes not going to be the de facto leader.
Since the defeat of the GOP ticket, Palin has pursued an aggressive media strategy, scheduling a full slate of interviews to keep her face on television.

Ever since he drank the Green Koolaid, he's been off the mark....now he's way off the mark. While he may be correct that she won't be the nominee, it will only be because the DBM succeeds in nominating the least likely to win Republican for us like they did in '08. "Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took himself down a notch, asserting that she would not become the partys leader, as some have predicted."
She has just begun....
you and your elitist Rockefeller Republicrats can stew in your juices.....and you can practice your catch and release, Dry fly.
Sarah and the conservative base will fillet and release and eat well and bring back the Reagan revolution.
I don’t see her as the nominee in 2012 and I don’t think she’d have a great chance in a general. I think JIndal is the most likely but four years is a long time. Nobody would have thought McCain would be the nominee four, or even two, years ago.
Agree,Newt is being honest here. We do not coronate our leaders. All Newt is saying that she has to fight for the title just like anyone else.
Gingrich’s career seems to be comprised of going on cable news programs and career advice to members of congress, none of whom care what he has to say. Palin must be having a good laugh over this latest pontification from Newt.
But..but...Newt should be the RNC Chairman.
Yeah, if they wish to continue the cycle of my not giving them jack squat.
Mt. Tri-partisanhip is a, hold your breaths class of ‘94 fans, RINO. Pushes glovbal warming, Hillary care, would cabe on the bailout but he’s a conservative? Only in another life...maybe.
Yes. I have my reservations about Newt. I think he sold out to clinton during his last couple of years in office. But he didn’t diss Sarah, as the headline implies. All he says is that there are a number of promising players. Most Freepers, for instance, would also mention Bobby Jindal.
BUT I’m still not sure how far I trust Newt. I’m not sure if he’s acting for the good of the country and the conservative movement, or if he just wants to get back to center stage again. I guess we’ll see.
He said nothing to denigrate Governor Palin.
But Gingrich wisely took a little step toward removing the onus of “presumptive 2012 nominee” from Sara's shoulders.
I'm sure that suits he just fine, right now.
Bravo, Newt!
Note to Newt: I’m tired of seeing and hearing you on Hannity hawking your damn books.
Mr. Newt said: Shes not going to be the de facto leader. Of course she isnt the de facto leader of the party. As you quoted, he said she is not going to be the de facto leader.
So using the first definition of "de facto"---"actual"---Newt is saying she is not going to be the leader.
Using the second definition---"Exercising power or serving a function without being legally or officially established"---many people here see her as that.
I see her as the de facto Leader of American Patriotic Conservatives.
Newt's quote of But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players" is IMO his way of marginalizing her.
He does not want her to be promite on the scene as one displaying the values of the GOP. Because she doesn't. She displays the politics and values of Conservative America.
That's a lot different than Newt and his GOP.
His politics are seeped in the new old traditions of the GOP.
Sarah seems to be a Conservative which is much different from Newt and his record.
I think that she is going to be a significant player, said Gingrich during an interview on CBSs Face the Nation. But shes going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. Shes not going to be the de facto leader.

Newt said that Gov Palin will be one of several..
And she will be and is..
Palin, Jindal, Steele, and other young GOP leaders...
Gingrich has one vote. I have one vote. Mine goes to Palin.
I wish Newt would go back into hiding like he did after he left his SECOND wife and resigned from Speaker of the House!
He’s a very smart man but I have no use for him.
LOL

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
He seems reasonable here, and I love Palin. I know Newt made more than a few PR mistakes in 1990s helping demons with his demonization. Palin looks much better than Newt as a visible figure. Newt is like clinton in that he craves the spotlight.
Larry, I have been saying this all along.
She has to make her own way.
And She is just the gal to do it!
On this point, Gingrich is right.
If Palin can lead on energy and the environment (which means she leads on the economy) that may be enough to get her to the top.
Time will tell if she has what it takes. Just as time will tell if others do. If she can show continued leadership, she'll get my vote.
