BOSTON – Turns out that when it comes to biting White House visitors, President Bush's dog Barney is a repeat offender.

Boston Celtics public relations director Heather Walker said Friday that Barney bit her wrist and drew blood as she tried to pat the Scottish terrier in September after a White House ceremony honoring the team's 17th NBA championship.

"It was very strange. I didn't expect him to bite me," Walker told The Associated Press.

What did they do, go toward Barney with their palms open, make quick movements, have voices like banshees? Dogs are smart when it comes to discerning friend from foe.

You always offer your hand below the dog’s chin, preferably squatting down if it is a smaller dog, like Barney, so he/she can smell it first. Then, if dog seems content with the sniff-over, you pat the side of the neck.

Towering figures bringing hands down over a dog’s head, to pat the head, are just asking for a good bite. If you were a dog, what would you think?

I hate to pile on with the media but if the dog bites it shouldn't be with people.

I've owned two dogs. Both of them snapped toward my children. I got rid of the dogs. One could have been just a mean dog, but after number two I decided that I don't know how to train dogs and ought not have one.

We now have a cat.
