According to a Friday New York Times article by David Kirkpatrick, Barack Obama has reassigned Fairness Doctrine proponent, former FCC Commissioner Henry Rivera, from heading his FCC transition team: At least one official initially involved in the transition appears to have been reassigned because of concern about his lobbying or legal work. Henry Rivera, a former Democratic commissioner on the Federal Communication Commission who was involved in planning for the agencys transition, has dropped out of that role because he had represented clients on communications policy in the last year, the newsletter Communications Daily reported Friday.
Kirkpatrick went on to report on Riveras new position in the Obama transition team: Instead, on the list that was made public on Friday, Mr. Rivera was listed on the team handling science, technology, space and the arts. Despite the reassignment, it is unclear if Riveras influence over a future FCC appointment has diminished. As the Media Research Centers Seton Motley explained on FNCs Your World With Neil Cavuto, Obama will have the opportunity to appoint a member to the FCC in 2009, possibly opening the door to a reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine.
The New York Times article, entitled Obama Transition Tangled in Ties to Lobbying, examined the numerous former lobbyists involved in the Obama transition: President-elect Barack Obama has imposed stricter conflict-of-interest restrictions on his White House transition team than any president before him. But a list of transition team members that his office made public on Friday includes a complicated tangle of ties to private influence-seekers.
Obama's decision to seek reinstatement of the "Fairness" Doctrine makes perfect sense....if you read my Tag Line.
Obama wants to "rule".....not lead. It is the same urge that propels most of the far left. They believe their beliefs are beyond question....and that anyone questioning them is by nature "an enemy" to be vanquished and rendered totally impotent.
The thrust for the Fairness Doctrine may appear to have taken a backseat for now.....what, 10 days into the transition.
Wait until conservative radio starts to question his moves after he's inaugurated - then we'll see how "backseat" it really is. My guess - the demands for legislation will be more strident than ever before.
“THe office CAN change the man. It has in the past.”
we can only hope. maybe getting a good sense of the real world will change his dreamy ways.
What I think they're after is to build a list of potty mouthed Democrats ~ and see if they can score good dope in DC outside of official channels or Jamaian posse's.
Good hit ~ I doubt Rivera’s going to be around for anything. That’s a lot of money to pick up and not share. Chicago pols do not highly value such behavior.
They're not going to try to apply the "Fairness Doctrine", this story just tends to support that conclusion. Nevertheless, they weren't going to pursue it in the first place. The loose 'Rat talk about the F.D. was just a way to bust our chops with some intimidation thrown in for good measure.
This doesn’t stop the silencing of the Right.
Watch Obamo. He’ll appoint someone who is worse!
That is what I keep saying. Where is their argument? They WON...they won EVERYTHING. So the argument to shut down so-called right wing radio makes no sense. It has been proven that the lefty message is getting out better than the message from the right. Might make a case for slapping fairness on the television media, or that they have to clearly label OPINION.
Yes, thank you for the info. I saw on a later thread it was about vetting cabinet members. I was scared for a minute there. I thought he was after FR. LOL

It’s one thing to gain power and another thing to hold on to it. I distrust Pelosi and Reid a hell of a lot more than Obama. I am convinced Obama will do what’s good for Obama and it will be interesting to see how much tolerance he has for the antics of his own party. I believe he knows that at some point he plays along with them at his own peril. We shall see how much more room is under that bus of his.
Thanks for the links. Good article and the “owner’s manual” was immediately bookmarked.
