John McCain and Sarah Palin
Townhall.com ^ | November 15, 2008 | Bill O'Reilly

Can someone please explain to me why Sarah Palin is still getting trashed a week after the election? I understand that the left-wing media hammered her during the campaign because they obviously favored Obama, and I also realize that scapegoating has become a national sport. But isn't enough enough with Gov. Palin?

Apparently not.

The fascinating thing about the latest round of Palin bashing is John McCain's reaction. A day after the election, Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron reported on my TV program that some anonymous McCain staffers were frustrated because Palin didn't know much about the world. The now famous accusation is that the governor did not even know that Africa is a continent.

Palin immediately denied it, and you would think McCain would have stopped that kind of vicious garbage in its tracks. But it took the senator six days before he publicly stuck up for her. So let me ask you something. If a friend of yours was being humiliated, would it take you six days to lend support?

Finally, this week McCain went on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and said he was very "proud" of Palin.

Simultaneously, the liberal media continue to pound the governor as a Marie Antoinette clone, a person who spends lavishly on silk shorts and "spray tanner," as Maureen Dowd wrote in The New York Times.

But even if that's true, WHO CARES? The woman lost and will not be the vice president. Somebody tell The New York Times.

Why is all this happening? Palin is a strong pro-life voice and, as such, has a giant target on her back as far as the left-wing media are concerned. She must be destroyed as an example to other women who may try to promote a pro-life position.

On the right, some Republicans believe that Palin is simply not smart enough to win a national election, and they don't want to have to deal with her again in 2012. If she can be marginalized now, that is a good thing for them.

As for McCain, my colleague Juan Williams believes he just didn't care enough to step up and defend his running mate. He lost, he's resigned, that's that. It's impossible to read anyone's mind, but McCain demonstrated the same lack of urgency in dealing with the Palin-bashers that he did throughout the campaign: There's an economic crisis in this country. Did you get the feeling McCain understood that?

It's impossible to ascertain exactly why Palin continues to get hammered, but fair-minded Americans surely know that it is unnecessary and mean-spirited. This time, enough really is enough.

O’Reilly is pretty supportive of Sarah here. I think he has finally seen reality.

Dennis Miller said it best. "Northeastern liberal women" are jealous of Sarah's healthy sex life with that guy named Todd. They don't understand how such a thing could be possible.

I think Miller's right.

Of all her extraordinary accomplishments, they hate her most because of First Dude.

I don’t think O’Reilly is supportive at all; I think he is still mad because Sarah didn’t come on his show. He wants her to shut up and move on. O’Reilly was instrumental in the big smear/hoax by Cameron and he has never had Cameron back on to talk about it.

I have written to both Cameron and O’Reilly on this issue. Cameron needs to air an apology and O’Reilly does as well.

Neither will. Like I said, I have turned them off; not worth the time to watch either one anymore.

I find Bill's condescension extremely offensive. Hey Bill, Sarah doesn't need your pity or protection, she handles herself just fine.

And after what Carl did, I have turned them off and tuned them out.

Yep. I used to DVR Brit's show but I have deleted the timer now. Now all we're left with is Hannity and Colmes and the colmes section is usually unwatchable.

The social liberals within the GOP fear that Sarah will beat Obama, and that the Republican Party will then be redefined in ways aligned with how she is: for the people, true to conservative principles, and such.

What you are describing, and are disgusted with, is the typical Leftwing pattern. They have nothing we, sane Americans, want so they have to tear down the other side in order to look good by comparison. They practice the principle of the Big Lie told often enough and long enough will be believed.

Remember 1992 and “The Worst Economy in 50 Years”? This time it was “The Worst Economy in 100 Years”. Both were the opposite of the truth.

Their candidate is always a genius, maybe even the smartest person in the world, and ours are always dolts. Obama is brilliant because he went to Harvard and became a lawyer. Bush is a dolt even though he has a Harvard MBA.

They trashed Bush continuously for eight years until the country and world hated him. All because they want power and the only way they could get it back was because people would want change, change from the false image of Bush and the country they created.

Without the lapdog media they could never get away with it. The media cover for them, repeat their lies as truth and then lie about their opponents. That is the world we now live in.

It is pretty simple BOR, Palin is feared and if she isn’t taken out now she will be back in force. Obama and Romney already know this, as do the minions.

Then how can you make such a statement. You would never know.
