WASHINGTON (AFP) The female descendant of a long line of US military officers was promoted to four star general Thursday, the first woman ever to reach the top rung of the US military.
Ann Dunwoody accepted the promotion and command of the army's materiel command with humor and humility at a Pentagon ceremony so packed with well wishers that three star generals were standing in the aisles.
"When people ask me, Ann, did you ever think you were going to be a general officer, say nothing about a four-star, I say not in my wildest dreams," she said.
"There is no one more surprised than I, except, of course, my husband.
And you know what they say, behind every successful woman there's an astonished man."

I’ll bring the measuring tape. Oh wait, I can’t find it. We’ll just use a dollar bill. I’ve been told that’s 10 inches.
I should say so.
Incredible..... :(
Welcome to the new thread. Glad you could make it. Pull up a chair. Got any tidbits you’d like to share about the general, logistics, or any other timely topic?
As a former DoD civil service typist, I think having good people in supply is essential. If you can’t get rubber stamps and carbon paper, everything grinds to a halt :-). At least, that’s how it was in the 80’s.
Somewhere around here I posted a link to the USAMC YouTube page. One of their videos focuses on manufacturing ammo. Good video!
Yeah, I was gobsmacked. But this thread is refreshing.
I assume since the BRAC decision, General Ann E. Dunwoody will move with the AMC to Redstone Aresenal, AL.

I read somewhere that she will, and that the move is expected to be complete in 2011.
When I was with the Army Corps of Engineers, one of our facilities was the Radford Munitions Plant in Virginia. It blew up every few years, very dangerous work.

This video about the Scranton ammunition plant was cool. It was linked from the USAMC page. The other ammo vid wouldn’t pull up for some reason; could have been my husband’s security settings.
Used to work for AMC at the Sacramento Army Depot (long gone).
:-)
An Army runs on its logistics.
“I note that we never received our shipment of boots. The infantry is grumbling that marching barefoot in the snow is difficult because of a lack of traction. I told them to wrap their feet some of the barbed wire of which we received 9000 bales.”
If you forget the name .. the words could be Sarah’s.
Nice one...thank you.
