WASHINGTON Usama bin Laden is isolated from the day-to-day operations of Al Qaeda, but the terrorist organization he built is spreading its influence in Africa and the Middle East, CIA Director Michael Hayden said Thursday.
Al Qaeda remains the single greatest threat to the United States, Hayden said in a speech to the Atlantic Council. "If there is a major strike on this country, it will bear the fingerprints of Al Qaeda."
"He is putting a lot of energy into his own survival a lot of energy into his own security," Hayden said in a speech at the Atlantic Council in Washington.

Usama? Not Osama? When did we decide to change the spelling of his name? There was some initial debate about how to spell it but it has been pretty much universally used as Osama for as long as I care to recall. Now the debate reopens?
Thanks! It appears you have some first or second hand experience.
I completely agree with you that Osama Bin BoogieMan now exists as a very thin glass smear on the inside of some cave somewhere on the Paki-Afghan border.
The big question in my mind is why Bush and the Republicans never said as much, while all those commie bass-turds like Obama bin Lyin’ strutted and preened about “you guys couldn’t even kill Bin Laden”.
I hate Obama for saying that. But I hate Bush and McCain even more for not answering with the obvious:
MAYBE WE ALREADY DID, DORK!
And you “knew” he was killed at Tora Bora, I’m guessing.
“Believe” all you want.
Let's say you were 98% sure he was dead.
Aside from a rise in the polls, what would the upside be of announcing he was dead? You'd have Obama/Reid/Pelosi all saying the war on terror was over and expenditures would be a huge waste of money.
On the other hand, if you were wrong, and a tape of OBL obviously demonstrating that he was alive, maybe standing infront of a T.V. with Bush announcing that he's dead, laughing, that would be a dissaster.
So, they've drawn a conclusion and they're almost certainly right, but they're doing something that's prudent rather than for political gain.
And you knew he was killed at Tora Bora, Im guessing.
Hey, some of us reason things out on availible evidence, some of us "guess". That's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

yeah, yeah, yeah... he’s in a cave with Emmanuel Goldstein. Under about 1 million tons of rocks.
Odd logic here by you - Considering the obvious alternative answer to your desired one is, we know he is alive. Learning to read between the lines of OSINT would help many in understanding what is likely known or not known. It is clear that CinC, SecDef and those authorized to speak at the tip of the spear all use verbiage (or lack of) that signal we know the man is alive. Take from that what you will / wish to.
