I think the knee jerk reaction here over guys like Jindal and Steele who have fairly thin resumes compared to most POTUS candidates in the past or who in Steele's case are not overly conservative is stunning too, doncha think?
You reckon this slavish desire to put a non white face on the GOP has anything to do with that? Like that will endear us to the media or that hyper ignorant mushy middle?

But like it or not, our society has become crass and needs a politician who will call it like they see it. You can't hold back and someone needs to call the Dems out on their cheating, lying ways.
I can understand that. Populism has its good and bad points. When it works, like it did with illegal immigration, its great. But when its done based on emotion and feeling, its just way wrong.
I really think we need both type of communicators. She can make things very understandable and Jindal can appeal to the more cerebral.
I think she is just trying to get some uncensored air time in and show america the real Sarah. I would want to get the nasty rumors and petty crap cleared up that’s been going around too if the opportunity was made available.Now is the time to do damage control, not later, especially if she wants to run 2012.

But anyone who can watch her today and think that she holds a candle to Jindal from a policy standpoint is in complete and utter denial. I love the woman, but you’re smoking something if you think she is our answer in 2012. Bottom of the ticket? Sure, if she is willing.

I just keep hearing the same phases from her that were fine at first, but show a lack of depth at this point.The essence of getting your message out is repetition and staying on message, something she does very well. President Bush (43) was good at staying on message, John McCain wasn't very good at it, in fact I think that's why town hall style campaigning is much less effective; the message gets muddled. We political junkies hear what is said far more often than the general audience hears it, to us it sounds repetitious.
I really thought her interview with Greta while cooking was disconcerting. She seemed to be trying very hard to project an appealing image of nonchalant dual competence, but I got the impression of someone who was struggling at both tasks.I think that you're in the minute minority on that one. :)

I just watched one of the panels at the conference, and Pawlenty sure sounded like a mushy-middle ‘new generation’ Pubbie, so I don’t think it’s just a generational thing. The painful truth is that Bush and McCain both believe in big government and they both have exceptional hubris around their sense of their own honor. I’m not sure either trait is generational. But I hear what you are saying about the idea, at least, that we used to have a more gentlemanly politics.

Look - I am a big supporter of Sarah Palin and I hope to see more of her in the future. With that said - I have heard Jindal speak and he is very intelligent and is a policy wonk but where is the charisma? I’m sorry but if you want to win votes, you apparently need to have some charisma in this day in age. I have not seen that from him but have w/ her. I agree w/ most all of his stances and he really has a deep grasp on things - but when communicating that to the “unintelligent” masses - you can’t keep the explanation above their heads - I feel that not everyone will understand him if he just speaks about policies etc. That’s a sad state of affairs that I feel the country has dumbed down so much but it appears that may be a decent assessment.
I agree that she needs to hone her policies and platforms in which she speaks on. I think she is extremely cautious and is slowly getting used to being on her own giving these interviews. When you have been savagely attacked by the media it may take you a little bit to get things going again and it looks to me like she is building that momentum and gaining the necessary confidence. It is only 1 week after the election and people are critiqueing (sp?) her depth and policy knowledge - she has 2 1/2 yrs if she even wants to run for POTUSA - If Obama shocks and amazes us all and does real well - well I would want to wait frankly. She has plenty of time to research, read and surround herself with advisors and mentors. I think what engages so many people is the fact that it appears that we at least have a politician with a little bit of heart - this has not happened in a long time. I vote on character and integrity as well!

Agreed. Providing constructive criticism is different than vacuous criticism. In addition, one has to be able to differentiate constructively from the available candidates. Not doing so is blindness and idolatry.
That is what I see in her, her heart is definitely in the right place. And Reagan had a folksy way about him and people were drawn to it.
I would venture to guess that the I.Q. level of people on F.R. is much higher than the average American voter. I can understand the issues people have with the way she speaks, but it’s her.
One thing people do have trouble with is accepting people the way they are. That has been a down fall for Republicans, we want everything, from every candidate. That is just not going to happen.
Minorities want a liberal or better yet someone percieved as attacking the old white power structure here.

I think sometimes about what a popular amongst blacks man like Obama could do if he would just tackle black illegiimacy with the same vigor he attacks class differences here.
Imagine that and what maybe he could accomplish there.

I totally agree w/ this assessment. I posted something similar on another thread last night. I really think in this day and age, you need politicians w/ a lot of charisma and star power along with the knowledge and depth. Both Sarah and Jindal have their strengths and weaknesses, but bottom line is charisma and star power is not something you can learn, but something you just naturally have. However, knowledge is something you can attain over time. I believe Sarah can attain it over the next several years. I love Jindal as well, but the little I’ve seen of him suggests he does not have the star power Sarah does at this time. I also wonder if sometimes he comes across as “too intelligent”. For policy wonks, he is articulate and right on message, but to the dumbed down electorate, will that work?? I guess time will tell. Bottom line is it’s too early and we need to concentrate on 2010 and be hopeful Hussein falls flat on his face.
