There is a bitter irony in McCain-Feingold and McCain’s 2008 run for the presidency. Hoisted on his own petard.
It is rather laughable that it bit him more than his opponent.
Further proof that just because Congress passes it and the President signs it and the Supreme Court upholds most of it, that doesn’t always make it a good law.
It bit McCain more than his opponent because his opponent declined to abide by it once he found out he could make and spend way more by eschewing public financing. I don’t think even little Barry expected the amount of donations that rolled in from here and abroad. I think he expected McCain to be rolling in corporate lobby dough and himself on a shoestring.
