Durham police investigage MySpace comments (Cops in trouble for dissing Obama)
Charlotte Observer ^ | 11/12/08 | Stan Chambers

Internal police investigators are looking into whether a number of Durham officers posted derogatory remarks about President-elect Obama on their MySpace pages.

"There's no exact words that were said," Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. said from San Diego, where he is attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. "It wasn't a racial slur, but we're still investigating it."

Investigators are looking into the context of what was written. Lopez wouldn't say what was written or how many officers are being investigated.

Police officials have been looking into the allegations since Thursday after a department employee complained about the remarks.

Lopez said even though the remarks were made on a personal Web page, the comments could be a violation of department policy.

"As a police officer it doesn't matter where you do it, if you provide disservice to the organization, it violates the [department's] code of conduct," he said. "It is a high standard that officers are held accountable to."

I guess cops can't call a president elect bad names on their own websites?

Time for another round of re-education training, I guess.

It’s not the facts of the matter, it is the seriousness of the charge.

I guess they should have ended their derogatory remarks with “praise be His name” and all would have been well.

This is out of control and the man isn’t in power yet.

Is there a police chief anywhere in the U.S. who is not a liberal suck-up?

Why does anyone beyond junior year of highschool have a stupid myspace page, and why, if you are in anything above a manufacturing job, would you post anything of any potential value, either positivve or negative?

This is the same Durham police force that punished no one after it became clear that some of the officers were participating in an attempt to frame three clearly innocent Duke students for rape. I guess that didn’t reflect badly on the department. OTOH, the Chosen One must not be criticized.

“It is a high standard that officers are held accountable to.”

Sure. If those words were of Bush, and I am sure plenty have been, they woujldn’t even notice.

I opened one when my son was in the Military. It was the only way for us to keep contact at times. When they were deployed the were able to get on line a few times. Just a simple post to me at times letting me know he was OK and letting me know what to send him was very helpful to both him and my family.

Also found many other Military family's for support groups.

I had gotten involved in a program called Soldier's Angels. They were very active on there as well. There were other soldiers that had parents that were not on it and they really appreciated getting a positive message from a mom back home.

Check what I found while looking at CNBC’s site:

They don’t even try to be subtle any more.
