The California Supreme Court's surprising announcement that it will quickly review the legality of Proposition 8, banning gay marriage, has prompted growing speculation that the four judges who found a right to gay marriage in the state Constitution in a May ruling will quickly throw Prop. 8 out. If that happens, watch out for a "barn-burner of an election -- the biggest thing this state has ever seen," says recall election guru Ted Costa.
Costa says he's already been contacted by some of the folks who would seek to recall Ronald George, Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar and Carlos Moreno if Prop. 8 is scrapped. He thinks it's premature and risky because talk of a recall "would just (bleep) off the judges."
Costa also doesn't sound like he's too thrilled about such a recall, saying it wouldn't be "healthy." Citing all the financial turmoil in California, he said, "If someone's going to do some recalling, that should be the focus."
But Costa sounds certain such a recall would happen and agreed that it would be no problem at all for gay marriage opponents to quickly gather the signatures of 12 percent of the electorate to force a recall election targeting George, Kennard, Werdegar and Moreno. He said supporters of Prop. 8 such as the Knights of Columbus, the Mormon Church and other traditional religious groups all had "massive" resources to bring to bear.
He doesn't think the state Supreme Court will overturn Prop. 8. "I gotta believe they'll uphold the initiative process." But if the four justices do, Costa says expect an amazing spectacle.
I agree. I think literally hundreds of millions of dollars would be spent on the recall. Gay marriage opponents see Prop. 8 as akin to a last stand preventing a global movement toward acceptance of gay marriage and will go all out. Gay marriage supporters, for their part, will no longer accept incremental progress or "civil unions."
At least it would be good for the California economy.

Two of the best on SCOTUS are Italian-American. Scalia is a giant and I hope he lives to be 115. Alito appears to be a good guy too. I doubt Scalia, Alito, Roberts or Thomas will stab us in the back. Some of the SCOTUS people get older a liberal. Rhenquist was a good guy too.
Tancredo is also I-A and he is one of my favorities.

I like Mormons. Super people. I never said anything bad about them. I think the MSM and some Repubs treated Mitt and LDS badly. I was just curious how much heavy lifting LDS did in CA Prop 8. My guess they did a lot of the heavy lifting to help get it passed.
I am with you. They are very family oriented. Super people. I wish that other half of Catholics voted and behaved more like Mormons.
If you think it’s overwhelming with just this sludge from the clinton years, consider what the Marxist squirrel will add to the leftist rolls of judges legislating from the benches, federal district benches. Elections have consequences and the Reid Senate has held open many many benches to allow the leftist messiah to fill the ranks with more leftist commies.
That’s the overwhelming I’m talking about......because of this monster. Clinton did not overwhelm me because we ended up with less democrats in 94. This is overwhelming because of the potential for damage.
Force a recall, like we did for Gray Davis back in 2003. It might be an off-year election and that would work to our advantage.
At the same time, include on the same ballot another gay initiative so that voters will vote to both remove and to reinstate the constitutional amendment.
Critical to do it before Arnold leaves office as Governors appoint Supreme Court justices.
California is getting interesting. A bunch of hard left crap was on the ballot in San Fran and they all lost. Apparently there are more conservatives in SF then people realized. The hard core libs are often renters.
Some people think CA could be flipped to where a GOP Pres could compete but RINO Arnold is not going to do it.

187 was vetoed by one judge, but we voted here for outlawing money and benefits (welfare, schooling, etc etc).
Now we are in another fight, and we won't lose this one.

You forget, my friend. Prop 187 was not overturned by the CA Supreme Court. It never got that far. See the below from Wikipedia:
On November 11, 1994, federal judge Matthew Byrne issued a temporary restraining order against it, on grounds that it exceeded state authority in the federal realm of immigration. The case worked its way through the courts. The multiple cases were consolidated and brought before Judge Mariana Pfaelzer. When the opinion was given three years later, Governor Wilson appealed it, which led it being brought to the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. However, in 1998, before the judges could rule, newly elected Democratic Gov. Gray Davis had the case brought before mediation. Following this, he dropped the appeals process before the courts, effectively killing the law.
So the Dems used a delaying tactic, and when they assumed the Governor's office, they effectively dropped the charges. Meaning, the appeal was the State versus the illegals and once the State declined to pursue the appeal the law was dead. Pretty clever.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, Californians need to consider pioneering an amendment to their constitution that would do the following. The amendment would save people the agony of being prisoners of conscience to perverted case decisions by unpopular, special-interest judges, decisions which don't compliment majority will as reflected by their constitution. Such an amendment would allow a supermajority of voters or legislators, a "super jury," to not only overturn such cases, but would allow renegade judges to be removed from the bench.
And as a check for the protection of judges, a "three strikes and you're out" clause, for example, in such an amendment would apply to the removal of flake judges.
I feel that the federal Constitution has needed such an amendment for a long time.
There certainly was this year! BUt in MA, voting is like going through the motions. And the GOP is not interested in helping any of our candidates, so they get left out of the loop.
How long has it been, a week? and I have still not seen the final vote count for the whole state.
