--snip--

The Arizona senator tells Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" the Republican ticket faced a tough challenge from the start but disputed that a different vice presidential pick would have changed the outcome.

He had only kind words for the Alaska governor and her family. But he didn't directly address criticism from unidentified McCain operatives ...

I don’t know that he doesn’t mean it, but it sounds like lukewarm support coming days late....

Yup, too little too late.

Where’s McCain been? He should not have waited until going on a late night comedy show. He has access to the media.

I agree with the sentiments of a FReeper who posted earlier this week: John McCain would probably have been the best Democrat president in at least modern history.

“Sadly, you are probably right.

As far as I am concerned McCain’s words should be the last words on the subject. He said the right thing, meant it, and he should know.”

We haven’t even seen this interview yet, have we? This is only a media summary.

It sounds good to me. I’d like to see the actual interview.

Salter said some good things about her in his recent interview, too:

I’m mad at McCain BECAUSE he was sitting in Sedona instead of getting off his ass and defending Gov. Palin before now!

I respect and admire Sen. McCain’s military sacrifice to our country. His long time silence on the slurs and character assassination of Sara Palin has been downright shameful.

Glad McCain did not.

“Finally, McCain speaks out.”

If it was Uhbama being trashed by his staff, he'd be on every news network within 15 minutes after Karl's “report”.

He’s a day late and a dollar short.

I wish all those old geezers in Congress would quietly fade away.

We need term limits badly.

Didn’t you parents teach you: “Don’t dignify it with an answer”?

Mine did.

And, apparently, so did McCain’s.

Obama operatives? Is Carl Cameron lying about his sources, or was McCain’s campaign full of moles? McCain knows this stuff is his problem: his people leaked all over the place before and after election day. They trashed his running mate (maybe there’s something to the mole idea.) He picked them; he (and/or they) picked her. Whether the smears are true or not (I’d say not: they don’t pass the smell test) it still reflects on his judgment and management.
