Firearms Industry Addresses Rising Gun Sales; Obama Admin. Showing Anti-Gun Cards Early
MarketWatch ^ | 11/10/08 | Staff

NEWTOWN, Conn., Nov 10, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As firearm sales continue to increase this year, at a rate of 10 percent over the same period last year and 15 percent in October alone, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- is pointing to gun-owner concerns about an Obama Administration as reason for the boom.

Last week President-elect Obama's Web site had posted his administration's agenda for curtailing the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, thereby validating the concerns of gun owners, sportsmen and firearms enthusiasts all across the country. Curiously, the Obama-Biden gun control agenda was taken down from the Web site after just two days.

President-elect Obama's Web site stated he would make permanent the expired "assault weapons" ban of 1994, a ban on firearms that was based on cosmetic appearance, such as the type of stock on the gun, and not functionality. The expired ban did nothing to reduce crime while it was in place. President-elect Obama's Web site intentionally misled the American people by referring to these firearms as "weapons that belong on foreign battlefields." These firearms are not machine guns. In reality, these commonplace firearms that President-elect Obama wants to permanently ban are used in shooting competitions and are found in homes and hunting lodges all across the country. They fire only once with each trigger pull, no spray firing, and they shoot the same ammunition as other firearms of the same caliber.

The marxist is going to be unpleasantly surprised when he tries to confiscate guns

Probably not. In 1775 he would have been shot and his sicherheitsdiesnt/tonton macoute/civilian enfocement corps/atf would have been shot. In 2008 the american people will just go baaaa when his thugs come. None of this was a secret during the election and the fools who voted for him were fully aware of his anti-gun fanaticism. They voted for him anyway which shows how much they care about the second amendment. Never mind freedom just keep those welfare checks flowing.

waco

The take away here isn't Waco or even Viet Nam (because the VC had the support of North Viet Nam and later the conflict was carried by the NVA), but Oklahoma City. You cannot wage a symmetric conflict with the government and expect to win. This is going to be a conflict of assassination and ambush - this Kongressional staffer here that bureaucrat there etc. IEDs in the favorite speed trap hiding place. It has the potential to get real ugly

We should have run Roddy Piper instead of McCain.

At least he would have come to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and he would have been all out of bubble gum...

You mean like they did for the bailout bill, immigration reform, and the Kelo decision?

The FedGov isn't going to do anything to threaten its own existence and primacy.

Ahh live and learn. I think we all need to take up a hobby to relieve stress. Model airplanes - the remote control kind seem to be a relaxing hobby

But it didn't quite work out that way in Canada, eh? And they aren't exactly known for their revolutionary rebelliousness.

IIRC less than 40% or so actually surrendered their guns when the laws were passed.

As far as your opinion about America's potential reaction, I believe that you are projecting.

I'd guess it would be far less than 5% in our nation that would surrender their guns.

Door to door, house to house confiscations?
Now THAT would be a bit problematic for whomever dared to suggest such action, as there would be many holdouts who would not go willingly. Think of the brave couple who stood their ground for mere tax reasons a while back. How many have stood their ground for lesser reasons! I believe that if the door-to-door orders were ever given, the news would be quite ugly every night. Then the viewers would have to choose...cower or fight. Their are only so many home invasions that people will tolerate.

Even the biggest leftists on your street would S**t their pants when one of those door-to-door raids killed their neighbors and thier children who stood up for thier freedoms and Constituional rights. Sympathy and horror would build rapidly from multiple smaller raids gone bad.

Remember the old woman who had her gun taken and pushed around in NO? Many were outraged at that whole affair! Now if a frail old lady will stand up, you can bet your patooty many stronger citizens will too. The only ones in NO that didn't get their guns taken away, were the larger goups of armed citizens, because nobody wanted an armed confrontation. And how about the lady shot and killed in the no-knock raid gone bad in Atlanta(?)...no sympathy for the cops in that one either, much less all the other raids gone bad on innocnet citiezens. Much outrage can and does arise out of even small single event stories like these.

Now imagine if it goes door-to-door and these sotries are the bulk of the evening news, across America, the American people are smart enough to know what tyranny looks like. Even with Ofama, 80% of surveyed Americans disagree with all fo his policies. Americans are more intellegent and more brave than you are crediting them.

As another example, the Waco tragedy angered many people. America didn't exactly welcome the JBT overlords, nor did anyone but the tyrants excuse their atrocities. No. Average American people were righteously angered and wept at the sight of that tragedy and saw what can happen as a scary prelude to what happens when a government is out of control and the bloodbath that is always potentially present. Only the little and greater tyrants, those who would have us all to be slaves to the state, endorsed the sickness that was Waco. If that happens again on smaller local levels, door-to-door, look for the same reactions by the masses. Most WILL stick together and this nation will be truly divided. The freedom lovers verses the tyrants great and small. Freedom lovers do have thresholds.

Remember the Clinton years...
The first time this century that we actually had militia movements. Many of these openly feared a coming tyranny. Who would have thought, say, 30 years ago, that we would have such fear of tyranny that grown men would band together to defend liberty is a reborn organized militia movement! Yet it did happen.

So, I must disagree with your comments.
Push the free man too far and he will fight back.
This is what separates us from most of the rest of the world and why they look to us as a light of hope, even in their bondage. Were any dictator to extinguish the light of the US and the entire planet will become a VERY dark place for all men.

...and many little tyrants drool at the opportunity to be that dictator.

He will come. Maybe not soon, but he will come.

What Obama says, and what he does or encourages to be done are two entirely different things...

We should never allow anyone to insinuate or difuse the difference between the spoken word and actions...

Just remember there are going to be some things they are going to excuse with the tried and true phrase:

“Well, thats not what he meant.”

That line of BS will fool some of the people some of the time...

But not ALL the people ALL the time...

"By their fruits shall ye' know them..."

I've always looked at what people have done as an indicator of what they will most likely do in the future. Obama isn't going to be "center" anything. No matter what the pundits and hopefuls say.

I suspect that with a large reward being paid to informants it would be fairly easy for America to turn its neighbors for a sizable chunk of cash.

Apparently my poor grammatical construction has confused you. Specifically I was referring ONLY to those who voted for obama, are union members, and own guns. (I also know a couple of these in PA who are, in addition, NRA members as well!) Battleground states I mentioned were those which are heavily unionized AND heavily armed.

By their vote, these voters (again, those who voted for their new messiah) have already dropped trousers. When the obama Sturm Abteilung-like Civilian Security Force comes for their guns, they WILL bend over and grab their ankles.

Others of us can take heart that, in the not-to-distant future when push comes to shove, the following data will be significant: "......., by the end of 1999, the total number of guns privately owned or available for sale in the United States came to more than 260 million, nearly enough for every man, woman, and child in the country to own one."
I assume that current data would be even more encouraging.

I say buy three guns in the next month because if gun confiscation does take place, you can hide one and turn the other two in.
How are you going to do that if they are all registered, as all stuff is nowadays. (4473's at the shops). It'd be a mess, that's for sure, as everybody would claim they sold it,etc. What do you think the first task will be for Obama's "civilian army" ?
Part of me wants to think happy thoughts and think he's just a power hungry idiot, who will be nothing more than a Clinton or Carter. Yet there is the nagging feeling that this time is something much more ominous.

It’s always very serious until facts show otherwise.

The election of Barack Obama highlights the current weakness of the Republican party but it also makes the point very clear that you need to either home school your kids or send them to private schools - I know private schools can be left leaning too but that’s where you do your home work.

Our public schools are designed to produce government following minions.

Biggest union presence in CO is government. Teachers union. But we are rat infested in CO right now. And they would like to change that.

We have to start delousing our government.

Thanks for the thoughtful post.

I respectfully disagree with you. We saw disarmament in NO after Katrina, and as your post notes, those in the midst of a fairly dire emergency gave up their means of self-defense. There was some sniveling, but the underlying fact remains unchanged: the disarmament went off without a hitch.
