Palin reflects on her run: The defeat, the future and the critics are all addressed
Anchorage Daily News ^ | 11/09/08 | SEAN COCKERHAM

Gov. Sarah Palin blames the Bush administration for the failure of the McCain-Palin ticket, thinks people need to move on from the so-called "Troopergate" controversy and has no regrets about state per diem for time spent at her home in Wasilla or state-funded travel for her children.

Palin also said she loved her time in the national spotlight and won't rule out a run for president or vice president in 2012.

Those were some of Palin's responses to questions posed Sunday afternoon in a wide-ranging interview with the Daily News and KTUU Channel 2 at the governor's Wasilla home.

Despite the defeat of the Republican ticket at the polls Nov. 4, Palin remains a national media obsession: Greta Van Susteren of Fox News had just finished an interview with her Sunday and was chatting with the governor and her husband in the kitchen. Moose chili cooked in the crock pot and moose hot dogs lay on the table. Palin insisted they weren't a prop for the national media but just how the family likes to dine.

Seven-year-old Piper Palin walked around with an apron and a notebook, asking people what they wanted to drink. Outside, an "Entertainment Tonight" crew waited, hoping without success that the governor would grant them an interview.

Here are some excerpts from the interview:

Q. Why do you think your campaign lost?

A. I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a 10 trillion dollar debt in a Republican administration?

The authenticity of Governor Palin and her family is reflected in these photos of her home. It just looks comfortable. Sunday afternoon football, Wednesday night PTA, Saturday night mixer with close friends. You could drop it anywhere in this country and it would fit.
There is love in that home. A love that could do this great nation a lot of good.

Country Club Republicans (RINOS) all, seek only power for themselves, even if it is only minority status.

And there's a strength -- based on principled moral convictions, not on polls and focus groups -- that could do this great nation a lot of good.

I'll finally turn on Fox tonight after one week of no news...just to see Greta's interview with Sarah.

Know what you mean, although I continue to watch Hannity's programs. I've had one week of no Minneapolis Star Tribune "news" (print or online), and though I don't subscribe to that Democrat house organ, I've discovered I can easily live without it 'til the next Republican Congressional majority or president is elected. Then, assuming the Strib still exists, I'll resume reading just to relish its consternation.

She’s great. You think she’ll be at CPAC?

I loved her interview too. She is a leader. I was not aware of the Sarah link; but have joined Joe the Plumber. Thanks for the links.

We will get through this and eventually get the leaders America needs. It may take a while; but it will happen. Evil never truly reigns; as it has no real meaning.

Well, if she's not going to be there no ersatz "Republican" had better be invited in her stead.

I fell off the Oprah bandwagon in the 90’s. It was so obvious that she is all about promoting race division. Just couldn’t take her phoniness anymore.

It is really important to remember; although it doesn’t seem like it; that people like Obama and Oprah are not the end all to end all.

People like Sarah Palin are our future. I am concentrating on the future.

She is the only smart one that was in the race and the idiots voted for two brain numb senators must be something in the freeloaders food chain.

LOL - my daughter used to love to do this when she was that age.

it’s sad to me that so many Americans — Americans of real accomplishment — cannot get out of the habit of talking like a Valley Girl.

Palin talks nothing like a Valley Girl. She talks like a midwestern gal.

I know this may be an extreme minority position but why do the Republicans who think they are purer than others have to call certain Republicans RINO’s (Republicans in Name Only). The latter (moderates) pay their membership fees like anyone else and are entitled to their opinions. I think the purpose of any party is to broaden its tent not to condense it. Isn’t it possible in the next 2 years to find common ground between the two groups? I think it can be done if people stop calling each other names and focus on only one goal: clarifying the issues and developing future policy that will win Congressional seats in 2010 and the Presidency in 2012.

You are certaily right. If you don’t have the numbers, you don’t win the elections.

Don’t get me wrong here because I like Gov. Palin a lot, but did I just read that she blamed Bush? I know she said the Bush Administration, but still. How about we blame the campaign? Gov. Palin was the best part of the ticket and they still treat her like garbage after the election, so I think that any loyalty to the McCain advisors would be gone for me.

I'm a huge Palin fan. I know she's smart, and I have a huge amount of respect for her. But it's sad to me that so many Americans -- Americans of real accomplishment -- cannot get out of the habit of talking like a Valley Girl. Sigh.

There are certain accents- deep Southern, Minnesota, Brooklyn, valley girl etc. that are associated with lower-than-average intelligence. It's not fair, of course, but the prejudice exists.

I think Palin has a future on the national political stage. But, it was pretty clear that she was not ready this time around. She is going to have to spend the next four years getting a level of polish, which will have to include taking the rough edges off her accent.

I see it more of way to say that the masses voted for Obama under the guise of change... so much so they were willing to risk socialism to get it. Yes, its a damning condemnation of the Bush admin. And its a pretty clear shot at McCain, IMO. He should have never signed that bailout bill. THAT’S more of the same, and the majority of all conservatives/pubblies are tired of all the money being spent by DC.

Exactly right. Hopefully, if Palin gets a bit more polished, she won't go so far as to lose her folksy charm and her easy idetification as "one of us".

My brother (a moonbat) will happily tell you that George W. Bush is about the worst president ever. Why? Well, apparently one of the major reasons is that Bush sometimes stumbles over his words.
My brother (did I mention he's a moonbat?) will also tell you that Obama will be one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen. Why? Well, he reads words from a teleprompter really well.

Sadly, how a candidate talks is considered really important. Tina Fey's characterization of Pailin is premised on the impression that Palin is dumb -- and that impression is largely based on her accent. It's something that she ought to address.
