Analysts: McCain doomed from start
UPI ^

PHOENIX, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain lost his bid for the White House mainly because anti-incumbent fury doomed him from the start, analysts say.

McCain made many missteps, but they didn't matter much because it was clear no Republican stood much of a chance in the 2008 election with voters overwhelmingly blaming President George Bush and the GOP for the nation's problems, The Arizona Republic reported Sunday.

McCain, who represents Arizona in the Senate, lost to Democratic opponent Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois last week in an electoral college landslide. He never stood a realistic chance, said Alberto Gutier, a longtime Phoenix Republican activist and McCain supporter.

"Everything was going to go the wrong way for the Republicans, in general, because of the negatives that President Bush had," he said. "When you combine the war, the economy, the gas prices -- it's a hell of a thing."

"Our polls and national polls showed that most people by a 2-to-1 margin blamed Bush and the Republicans more than the Democrats for getting us into the mess, and they believed that Obama was more likely to get us out of it," Bruce Merrill, a veteran Arizona pollster, told the Republic.

"It never ceases to amaze me how deep MDS is on this site"

I agree, between the 'rats/anti-religionists and those on the right with ingrained MDS, there is a greater probability of electing an islamic jihadist than a Mormon. It's hard to believe, but apparently true.

"get real"

I am real. You still haven't answered my question. If McCain was doomed before he began, then why did he have any kind of a lead after the Pubbie convention? And all the way up to crash, he was ahead. That's irrefutable. Are you saying the crash and the false blame the Pubbies received for it had absolutely no effect on the American public? That's an absurd position.

All I know is Republicans received full blame from the media for the crash. The role of the FMs were barely or never mentioned by the media. A better persuader, (Giuliani, Romney, anyone) could have argued the Republican position better than McCain WHO AGREED WITH OBAMA AS TO THE CAUSE!!! Greedy bankers aka Republicans caused. McCain shot himself in the foot. And he was toast after that.

Whatever you are on must be good, because I don’t have any ideal what you are writing about.

Having a lead in the polls doesn't mean jack, when 20% of the base will not support you. Go read the poll results. It's not going to change , the election is over.

You’re very good at not answering direct questions. Have ever considered running for office?

And like Senator McCain said, he no doubt is a family man who dearly loves his wife and children. McCain was just being a gentleman by pointing that out.

Obama grew up as a Marxist. He sought out Marxists. All his Chicago friends are Marxists, except for Rezko who is in jail. We should, unlike McCain, be very afraid.
