Here's my question, though...why should a country already deeply in debt (US) spend millions (if not billions) of dollars to protect Europe, when they obviously don't wish to be protected? I don't understand it.

Because there are still a couple of countries over there that remember what life was like behind the Iron Curtain and they don’t want to return...especially with Vlad saber rattling about “The Good Old Days”.
Freedom yours or someone that wants your help to attain it...is worth any price.
As I understand it, the purpose of putting these missles over there is so that they can be used to shoot our enemies’ missles out of the sky before they can reach US soil....
Here is the more important question: Will Obama stop the deployment of the anti-missile defence system not only in Poland but elsewhere, including in the US? Obama has said it must work 100% before deployment. That is politicianspeak for killing the system or at least delaying it including reducing funding. This is not good.
Obama has promised to end the missile defense program. He made it clear.
Sadly, he has no intention of honoring any commitment made by President Bush.
When President Bush spoke to our allies they understood him very well. When O-liar speaks it’s always ambiguous.
Poland is one of our staunchiest allies in Iraq and are in danger of being attacked. They are a lot closer to Iran than we are and the big bad bear of Russia is salivating at their doorstep. You protect your friends.
