David Frum to the Religious Right: Drop Dead

After weeks of expressing contempt for the delcasse Sarah Palin, David Frum has now expressed his disdain for the voters who liked Palin and who have propelled the GOP to victory after victory since Reagan’s election in 1980, the evangelical Christians and conservative Catholics who vote Republican because of their concern over issues like abortion. According to Frum, such voters need to be jettisoned because “College-educated Americans have come to believe that their money is safe with Democrats--but their values are under threat from Republicans.”
To pursue the burgeoning yuppie class, “will involve painful change, on issues ranging from the environment to abortion. And it will involve potentially even more painful changes of style and tone: toward a future that is less overtly religious, less negligent with policy and less polarizing on social issues.”
What Frum neglects to add is that none of these changes would be “painful” for him, a pro-abortion, non-religious denizen of a tony Washington neighborhood, who has long been uncomfortable with social issues and tolerated religious voters so long as they were willing to vote Republican without expecting much in return and serve as cannon fodder in the wars Frum wants America to fight, but now thinks he has found something better.
The question is, with National Review giving the boot to its founder’s son and Jeffrey Hart, why does it still keep Frum around? Is National Review, too, becoming embarrassed by religious conservatives? (Thanks to John Seiler for pointing out this latest revelation from David Frum).

And please let me make one thing clear: I love Sarah Palin and what she represents. I love her attitude, her determination, her willingness to fight and what seems to be her overall political philosophy. I’m not one with the Frums and Noonans and Buckleys of the world. I found their statements disgusting over the past few months. In fact, the single only reason I did vote for the GOP ticket was because of Sarah.
The leadership of the party organization will be replaced within a month. The leadership of the party in Congress will be replaced within a month. The leadeership of the party in the Executive Departments will be gone in two months. Just who are the party leaders who won't allow conservatives to take power?

Anyone "perceiving" any political party including the studiedly non-"Gantry"-ish likes of (just to rattle off a few quick, nationally known names) Charles Crist, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Olympia Snowe, etcetera, etcetera, is plainly delusional, and arguably would never willingly vote for any Republican candidate to begin with. There simply isn't any way to argue someone out of something via the application of sweet reason if they never used reason to argue themselves into it initially; and only a fool, ultimately, would waste anything more than the most minimal amount of time and/or effort in such an inherently fruitless enterprise.
I take your separate statements, re: Sarah Palin, incidentally, at face value. ;)
Already, the GOP is attacking Palin and the conservatives. How long till the remnants of the pro life plank are pulled?
David from is an elitist. How dare he look down his nose at decent God fearing hard working law abiding Americans?
If it werent for the very wonderful Sarah Pailing, McCain would have been dead in the water three months ago.

Let me ask you: who are the GOP leaders who are willing to step aside and let conservatives redeem the party now that the present leadership has totally screwed things up?

Party Chairman Duncan (he is resisting but will go), Republican House Whip Blunt, House Republican Conference Chairman Putnam, President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard Cheney, likely House Republican Leader Boehnert. All Republican Cabinet members and their staffs.
Let me try to explain myself a little bit better, and to apologize for the “Gantry” comment, which seems to have stuck in your craw. I genuinely meant no offense, I just believe that there are more important issues than Creationism or homosexual “marriages.”
I consider myself an absolute, 100 percent, no-holds-barred conservative. I read the WSJ editorial page and National Review religiously and have nothing but loathing for the far left wing. I am anti-abortion, anti-taxes (*really* anti-taxes) and weep for my country when I realize what incredible power Obama, Reid and Pelosi are going to have in a couple of months.
But I’m also a pragmatist, and I realize all too well that this is an increasingly well-educated country, and a lot of those well-educated people look at the fundamentalist wing of the Republican Party as being utterly outside of polite society.
Whether you (or I) like that is irrelevant. I wish more than I can tell you that the filthy hippies who make up the far left wing of the Democratic party were looked upon with at least as much scorn by the general public. For the life of me, I don’t know why they’re not. Why a Cornell West is treated like he has something to add to the conversation while Joel Osteen is not is mystifying. (And that’s not an endorsement of Osteen, but I don’t think he’s any crazier than West.)
But I believe that more people than not believe the conservative economic message. I believe that there are plenty people who are receptive - if not completely sold - to the conservative social and cultural message. The problem is that they would never willingly vote for any Republican candidate to begin with because they see us as Bible-thumpers.
I don’t know what the answer is. I really don’t. Again, I’m sorry that I caused offense. We’ve got a lot of figuring out to do.
Why do so many Jews on both sides of spectrum hate America and loathe Christianity?
I can say that I have nothing at all against the religion Judaism.
Obama is surrounded by socialist Jews which is contradictory in plain sight. Bih Jewish players in Hollywood got Obama’s campaign going to start with.
Many Jews in the media hated Palin because she is unabashed Christian right.
and now we have seen Jews like Frum on the lite right work overtime to discredit Palin for the same reason.
I’m getting tired of this.

I try to get along and be polite and reasonable but they are hiding in plain sight and openly antagonstic to my beliefs yet if I criticize them then I’m a nazi.
I’m very weary of this double standard. They disrespect me and I’m supposed to just suck it up.
I could make exactly the same argument about almost any minority.
Most of those now graduating from college aren't educated. They're schooled, a gigantic difference.

Thank you for pointing this out. There were many of us who recognized he'd be doing this as soon as he appointed her. Everything in his past history revealed it. If he had won, when she wasn't flying to funerals or opening strip malls, he would have relegated her to picking up his dry cleaning and fetching his coffee.
(Serious conservatives take note and always remember: Past history is the best indicator of future behaviour.)
Conservatives should learn as much about Leo Strauss, the guiding light of the neo-cons, as they do about Saul Alinsky. Strauss's philosophy, even as presented by those who were his disciples, should leave freedom-loving Americans, if not outright frightened, deeply troubled.
I have to admit my ignorance. I can’t remember having heard of Leo Strauss, much less read him. I always thought if there was a “guiding light” of neocons, it was Irving Kristol, who is pretty awful in his own right.

With its predictable slither to the left, exactly as it's done since Poppy Bush first became President, The GOP continues to erase any distinction between itself and the dems; and further erodes any philosophical reason for its further existence.
