Obama wants forced labor for school children
Office of the President-Elect ^ | 11-05-08 | Office of the President-Elect

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Obama's community service would be required. Currently in my school district, community service is required to get a degree. I am against government required community service. Both Obama's plan and my kid's school plan are inappropriate. Required community service for kids is an assault on inalienable rights. As a parent, within reason, I will decide if and what my kids do. The government should not be doing that.

You are still missing the point. as long as the government is giving money to education, they can require what ever they deem ‘appropriate’... enter... the department of education. it should be disbanded, effective immediately, make the school districts be responsible to their community- not some government bureaucrat and their constituents

What? I simply said that it is inappropriate for the government through the schools to require community service. And of course the Department of Education should be abolished. Gee what a novel idea.

I was born and raised in texas, i now live in boston, in my district, there were just over 1200 that voted, 19 of us voted for McCain, don’t try to lecture me about being conservative, or a newbie...this website should exist to try and use conservative voices to preserve the GOP and the American way of life, not prove ‘who is more conservative’ — pathetic..

I didn't say you weren't conservative and I didn't call you a newbie.

Another ironic post from you. I don't know what your problem is but YOUR two posts to me are pathetic.

Guys with this, the similar Rahm book thread, and the Obama bizarre civil force comment what is our best arguments? What is really going on here? Is there a close historical example of a fascist power grab starting with a cover of help people volunteer force? Or is this just a individual liberty thing i.e. no one wants forced indoctrination or service? Or is this a socialist thing? We all must work the fields for Big Brother???

Talk radio host Jerry Agar used to call Hussein an outright communist. He’s right.

Hussein wants to be a kindler, gentler Pol Pot. The press back him because they want to see themselves, “shoulders to the grindstone of history”, as partaking in some great historical event of remaking America. As far as the leftist media goes, the operating psychology is pure narcissism.

There’s not too much the Obamanation can do to force 55 year olds into community service. The focal point of this initiative will be young children in public school. Young children have young parents (most of whom probably voted for Hussein) who can be easily cajoled or threatened into obeying.

This is ultra-serious business, FReepers. This is the thin end of the totalitarian wedge of re-education. You can absolutely expect the following: reimposition of the Fairness Doctrine and control of the Internet. He must abolish freedom of speech because it’s a threat. After that, abolishing the 2nd amendment will follow.

Soon there’ll be a call for the government to provide the “proper training” in “precisely how to give back to the community.” That will be the invitation to start brainwashing children with Alinsky-style agitprop. When they get to a certain age, they will be drafted into the Citizen’s National Security Force. This will be a force of little political cadre officers who ensure that everyone in the community “is of one mind.”

I read on IBD today that there’s a website called “change.gov” which seeks original ideas on “change” from the People. The author thought it sounded a bit weird — perhaps they’re just looking for patterns from special interest groups. I thought that might be naive. Personally (sorry for the tinfoil hat) I think it’s a trap. It might not be intended as such, but it can be used as such. It lets the Obamanation know who agrees with his policies and who has radically different (as in “pro-liberty”) ideas.

I’m keeping far away from that site!

And yes, I am also against a military draft, just in case that comes up.

I'm for a draft of all pansy-pants RINOs. 4 to 6 months of Army boot camp would toughen 'em up good. Conservatives would be exempt.

A “rite of passage” is a literary term of art. It doesn’t mean McCain wanted to make it compulsory.

Yes, homeschooling will most likely be outlawed, your parental rights be damned, and I’m saying this as someone who feels only about 25% of parents have any business teaching. While the public schools aren’t doing as well as they should be, it’s a stretch to call sending a child there child abuse. My public school experience was positive and didn’t leave me a brainwashed liberal.

The idea of kids contributing to their community is fine with me. I have no problem with them learning what a day’s work means. For the elderly, it might, in many cases, give them a purpose and sense of being needed. We hit people up for jury duty. We have been recruiting our young people to serve in the military for years, except during the draft, so the concept isn’t completely foreign. However, the involuntary nature of this idea and the strong likelihood that the programs manufactured for these millions of people to participate in will be re-educative Marxism in nature is frightening beyond belief.

The other issue is that it will cost big bucks to operate the program because of the bureaucracy needed to monitor making sure everyone puts in their hours. It’s also a means of keeping track of people and will provide a ‘Big brother’ means of knowing things about our personal lives, likes, hobbies, etc., because I would imagine there will be a screening process used to determine individual suitability and aptitude in deciding the duty assignments.

I can also foresee a ‘waiver’ system in which the Obama-favored type of people and leftist elitists are able to avoid the service.

All in all, under Obama this is a horrible idea. Under someone else, it wouldn’t be that bad, although the involuntary nature of the idea would prevent me from ever supporting it.
