Anonymous attacks, claims follow Palin home (Palin reprimanded for calling Rush)
Anchorage Daily News ^

Posted on 11/07/2008 6:14:51 AM PST by mathwhizz

Stapleton said some campaign staff members controlled Palin too tightly, keeping her from the press and admonishing her when she made calls to radio hosts Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and others.

"Instead of just letting her be who she wanted to be they still felt this need to control. ...There were a few times where she actually did sneak in phone calls and was reprimanded for picking up the phone and placing a few calls on her own," Stapleton said.

"She felt that she really did want to go out and speak and get out there more. One of them was to (the Daily News). There were a number of times where she reached out and really wanted to speak and she was told she needed to follow the script and she needed to follow what they wanted her to do and that wasn't in the plan."

Stapleton said Palin called the staff of Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly. But the campaign got wind of it and told her O'Reilly had canceled the interview, which wasn't true.

Randy Scheunemann, McCain's foreign policy aide, contacted the Daily News at Stapleton's request Thursday and defended the governor. He praised Palin and said anonymous attacks from other staffers are "disappointing and dishonorable."

"It's really amazing, I think it's unprecedented in terms of presidential politics to have this level of vindictiveness and pettiness. It's like these people fell out of favor with a middle school 14-year-old girls' clique. It's really unbelievable," Scheunemann said.

Oh my goodness. Why is this news? I doubt that is even true. Even if it is, who CARES? I guess next we’ll hear that she was soliciting them for a date. Ugh.

Great song! Too bad it’s so true.

Seems pretty obvious to me that so many in that camp were jealous of her immense popularity. She was able to do in one month what the McCain campaign could not do in years.

Yes, I was wondering if Oprah’s going to put her on her show now that the election is over, just like she promised. Yeah, right. I would hope Sarah would turn her down if she asked.

I suppose we will eventually get a coherent account of all this nonsense. I agree that those responsible for trashing Sarah Palin should never be allowed near another GOP election campaign.

Presumably from this point forward Governor Palin will be in charge of her own political destiny. I was - and am - a supporter and would very much like to see and hear more of her. Right now leadership is sorely lacking in the GOP and conservative leadership is almost invisible. Governor Palin has an opportunity right now to really establish herself as a leader of the party and of the conservative movement. And if she were truly wise she would be forming a network with people like Governor Jindal, Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Eric Cantor and other conservatives with the express purpose of taking the party back from the moderate dweebs who have wrecked it. And people like Rush and the rest of the talk radio crowd along with the NRO types should be included in this. To take back this country a concerted effort is going to be needed.

Time to form a REAL VRWC.

If I were a mccain campaign insider i’d be mad and bitter too. I’d be mad that I was stupid enough to think that a Republican who sold out his base could have a chance of winning the election.

I’d be bitter because I was such a loser to sign on with McCain in the first place.

“Bill O’Reilly was supporting and assisting the trashing of Ms. Palin.”

He was; it’s true.

ENVY is not listed as one of the seven deadly sins for nothing. These slime balls are not worth being discussed on Free Republic. They are being discussed in the most heavenly of places and their reward will be just. Let em rot in hell.

These stinking bio-piles are just vying for better deck chairs on the Titanic.
For Fox “News-makers” (a position formerly held by reporters) to be a “player” in the new White House era they feel they need to shed their conservative right-leaning image. What better way to do this than to (attempt) to sacrifice the poster child of the conservative movement.
If I owned stock in Fox I would sell it soon. They are following all the other dinosaurs into the tar pit.

"This RINO/Moderate stuff has to stop immediately."

Hey, in case you all don't remember; McCain (and by extension) his campaign staff were chosen to represent the party.

By our failure to endorse a true conservative (who could have WON, BTW), we effectively made the case for continuing the practice of promoting liberal Republicans.

Next time, if there is a next time, we should hold to principle and reject any RINOS that come along.

But of course, we won't because we are the stupid party, and can't possibly learn anything.

No, it was someone claiming what they heard someone else say.

That’s the definition of a rumor.

” I doubt that is even true.”
That’s the point of my post. Yesterday, it was reported that she answered the door wearing a bathrobe, which I do every once in a while. Today, she’s wearing only a towel. Tomorrow they will have her stark nekkid!

I would point out that Palin, Bob Dole, Jack Kemp, George HW Bush, Quayle, W., and Cheney ALL spoke with Rush during the campaign. The only national republican candidate in 20 years not to speak with RUSH, Capt. Queeg.

Bottom line, running to the center to find the linguini spined moderates who make voting decisions based on who is more metrosexual is a failed policy for republicans. We have three sets of proof that it is a failed policy.

1. Bob Dole

2. George HW Bush in ‘92

3. John McCain (did we really think we were going to win with global warming nuts??)

Ahhh, no it's not true. Bill O’Reilly called it “nitpicking.” I'm shocked at the number of people here who don't seem to be objective.

BOR has been snarky re Palin from the get-go. For him to provide the venue for Carl Cameron to go ghetto and gossipy spreading the nastiness is a passive-aggressive way smear Palin even further. He knew what Cameron was going to do, else he wouldn’t have had him on the show. On the small chance he didn’t know, he could’ve ended the interview.

BOR has invited Palin on his show on Monday; I hope she refuses. He’ll be an ass. (Not that I’ll watch, ‘cause I don’t any more.)
